The thing I don't understand about playing Tebow
There's one thing about the "miraculous" 4th quarter Tebow comebacks that bothers me a little bit:
In week 11 he couldn't do anything against the Jets base defense for 3+ quarters. On what turned out to be Denver's last drive the Jets changed into a softer bend-but-don't-break style defense which gave Tebow time to throw and room to run. Therefore allowing him the 95-yard drive for the win. Quite obviously Tebow hasn't adapted to the speed in the NFL (and in my opinion he can't and won't in the future), but if you give him enough time to go through his reads and step into his throws he will hit his targets - or run for a first down / touchdown. Yesterday Tebow was 3 for 16 in the first three quarters. With a ten point lead, Denver out of timeouts and 4:34 on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Bears changed into a softer defense, playing their safeties 20 yards off the line of scrimmage - with predictable results: Tebow went 7 for 7 on the next drive and 18 for 24 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Now everyone and their mother is saying the Bears should never have gone to Prevent D - but why wasn't that obvious to the coaches? |
