Good read ... KC is soft alright, like fabric softener ... Downy soft, ... but it does bring to light a philosophy that simply does not work in situations where you need to 'motivate the troops' into performing above & beyond their normal level ... being their friend when you're supposed to be their coach.

It's a lot harder to start out being a 'player's coach' and trying to hard-ass the team later when they're not doing so well then it is being a 'hard-ass' right-out-of-the-gate and then easing up down the road. When 'down the road' comes around, they always remember what an a@@hole you can be and were in the beginning, so they respond ... when they remember you as being a 'nice-guy' first, they just blow you off and you wind up having to be twice the a@@hole.

This also I think applies to the Saints somewhat and I saw it pointed out by OldMaid in another thread. Payton was undoubtedly a disciplinarian/SOB behind the scenes and possibly Vitt also. Without their combined presence, the players are relaxed a bit ... it's just human nature and what has Aaron Kromer ever done to instill the perception of him as an authority figure in the locker room? Probably 'na-da'. It's not a knock on Kromer (I'm an offensive line groupy ), but when I read his profile/bio on the Saints website and see comments like "developing and tutoring", it makes me believe he has not had to be much of a 'hard-ass' in the past, and now he does. I also understand why the Saints organization did this instead of bringing in someone else ... by putting Kromer's feet-into-the-fire, they develop him a little more as a leader on the team and not just a 'line-coach'. Kromer has to motivate the entire team now, and on a different level, they're just not responding, yet. It should work out somewhere down the road though.

Same thing happened when the Lions hired Rod Marinelli as their H/C ... guy was an offensive line coach and a 'players coach' ... his teams were 'soft' also ... Downy soft.

We can call this week the Charmin bowl.

Two soft defenses in a glorified pillow fight.

I honestly think we are pretty soft right now... honestly speaking. Teams hit us in the mouth and manhandle us -- frankly I think it started ever since that stupid Jaguars game. You could see the starters were getting pushed around. Them pulling an "Ambush" onside kick on us, in our own house, in the second half of a preseason game. Junk like that. To do that is just beating up on somebody, poking their eyes, like in the Three Stooges. It was embarrassing. I still go back to that play. If we let that play work, on us, that's SOFT. That's OUR freaking play! Jacksonville, you didn't build that! LOL

I mean getting hit hard by the 49ers in the playoffs and almost coming back from it is one thing -- everybody knows they are a brutally physical team. And most of these same guys of ours hung with SF in that game, blow for blow, to the end. Now we're being outfoxed and physically pushed around by the fricking Jaguars, in fricking preseason? We gotta lot of work to do.

I think we've blamed a lot of people at this point, but I think it's finally time to start blaming Drew Brees for our play. Throwing 4 INTs in only 2 games? Having QB Ratings of 41 and 38? It's time for him to start leading this team again, right now at this point in the season we sadly have the worst QB in the division.

I'm not saying Brees sucks or anything like that, I think by the end of the season he'll be the best QB in the division again. But at this point, his play is NOT going to cut it.

RG3 was able to lead his team downfield and if it wasn't for a stupid flag from Josh Morgan throwing a football, they probably go into overtime. What does Drew Brees when it's his time to step up? Of course an INT on a terrible throw.

Now, I love Brees and I hope he really improves, because he was a top 3 QB last year, but as of now, I don't even know if I can put him in the top 15.

We are just as soft as the Chiefs at this point, and if we can't beat them I have no hope.

Honestly, if Brees keeps up this play we might start hearing Barkley chants during the draft when we have the 1st pick in the draft.

You should post more often. Obviously you don't have a problem pointing out the elephant in the room.

Thanks, I've been a lurker on this board for quite a while. Thought I'd put my 2 cents in for once.
