Goodell says this could be last year of Pro Bowl
The only NFL game I don't care if I ever miss!
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NFL will consider dropping the Pro Bowl if the level of play doesn't improve, Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday night. Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio's "Town Hall," Goodell agreed with host Michael Strahan that last January's Pro Bowl "was embarrassing." "If we cannot accomplish that kind of standard (of high play), I am inclined to not play it," Goodell said. "It is really tough to force competition, and after a long season, to ask those guys to go out and play at the same level they played is really tough." Re: Goodell says this could be last year of Pro Bowl
My crazy alternate idea is, instead of having a "Pro Bowl," they should have a one-off game in August, during preseason, of all the leftover promising young guys from college who didn't get drafted, who got cut in camp or who did not make teams.... and the veterans who got cut during the previous camp or season, your Terrell Owens types, free agent guys whose teams have given up on them but who still want to hang on...
You throw them ALL together and give them ONE LAST SHOT to impress the scouts and make something happen and maybe find a team... the NAAPA Spare Parts Bowl, LOL. Make it a totally fake East vs. West thing, like an all-star game. Have two retired "celebrity" coaches (Parcells, Gruden, Dungy, Herm, etc) throw the whole team together in a week of practice, use "all-star" coordinators and position coaches (voted best by the coaches), and the best NFL medical and training support staff available, and throw them all out there, let 'em play. Dudes would play their asses off for that last chance to make it to the pro's, or find a home on a roster...I think it would be an awesome game. Stupid, but awesome at the same time.Better than what we have now. |

I like it!
Of course, the legality of doing it would come into play; would the players, coaches, etc have to sign a waiver in case of injury, etc... |

Re: Goodell says this could be last year of Pro Bowl
This should have been done years ago. Really shows how out of touch the NFL is with the players and the fans. We don't want the game. We also don't want international games. We also don't want 18 games. It's too much and will cheapen the product on the field.

Are you kidding me? You established the pansy rules for the players so no ones hero got hurt. You wouldn't let them have anything more than a touch scrimmage game. And now you want to eliminate this embarrassment. Really? This is the direction that you are taking the current game of football(hell even yesterdays football is gone). You can't complain about football being boring when that's what you turned it into. This game is going to Hell in a hurry. Thank God for rugby! You are not good for football........your power trip is almost over........end of story. |

Any chance this could be the last year of Goodell?
I'd rather watch the pro bowl than watch Roger continue to eff things up. |
