Falcons released LE Ray Edwards

Falcons released LE Ray Edwards.

Atlanta signed Edwards to a five-year, $27.5 million deal before the 2011 season after he recorded 16.5 sacks for the Vikings in the 2009-10 seasons. He was replaced in the starting lineup after the Week 7 bye. Edwards recorded just nine tackles and zero sacks in nine games this season after notching just 3.5 sacks in 2011. The Falcons will employ a rotation led by Kroy Biermann. Edwards should be able to find work on a much lighter contract.

We should pick him up in three weeks for the rejuvination of his career

He never really was as good as his stats in Minnesota seemed to suggest. He benefited greatly of playing opposite of Jarred Allen and having Kevin and Pat Williams on the interior of that D-line.

Robison has been a better DE for the Vikes than Edwards was, and many in Minnesota were laughing at the contract the Failclowns gave Edwards two seasons ago.

Another great move by Dimitroff! :dunce:

Probably a lot like they felt yesterday when Lofton broke up a pass on a third down killing an Atlanta drive. Exactly what they said he couldn't do when they lost him.

Maybe he hasn't had the right stimulation.
He may need to play for a dynasty organization like the Saints.
We've been pretty good at reviving the career of former Falcons.... he might want to play for a real team.

Falcon coaching is subpar we all know that. I want Edwards given a shot. IF he worked out the plus is huge, and hes probably for cheap now.
..and if we sign him fast I am sure he wants to play his old team and will have a 2nd motor trying to kill ryan :)
Hell just sign him for that game, lol

Bring him in for a week or two just to piss the Falcons off.

He would fit in Spags system to a tee, could take Smiths spot and do a much better job. He is a 4-3 player not a 3-4.

Maybe, but I fear that he would need a dominating opposite DE and a dominating interior lineman pair to work with in order to be a dominant player himself.

Since the Saints are far from having any of those - although Jordan has showed some positive flashes of what he could develop into - I would have to think that he wouldn't really bring anything different to the table than the likes of McBride already do.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he is the answer to creating more pass rush with just the front 4.

Atlanta Falcons Cut DE Ray Edwards: How Does This Affect the Team? | Bleacher Report

Interesting read on Ray Edwards, red flag has to be his off field stuff, like being a party animal. Maybe a change will do him well, he is only 27, and did have a nice career for the Vikings.

He was signed to a five-year, $30 million contract ($11 million guaranteed) in July 2011. He walks away from the Falcons with $11 million in his pocket.

Much like (I think it was) Clyde Simmons who played opposite Reggie white and with Jerome Brown. He had a shoot ton of sacks one year with Philly. Following year he signed with Arizona, and as they went so did his career.

You'd be doing the other team a favor. You'd be getting absolutely no rush from his side of the line. I don't even remember the last time he had a sack.

No gas? Seems like a lot of gas to me! Look, he's coming out a cloud of POT smoke! Guess he had to toke it up to brush off his Failclown depression:
