Very tragic.....
Now, I went back to read the article.
The awful thing happened at Arrowhead Stadium.

No words....from me. Awful. Very sad .
Thoughts out to the coaches, the orphaned kid, the girlfriends' family, the fans of KCC, Belcher's fam and friends.

That's bizarre. My heart goes out to his family and the family of his girlfriend.

So sad. Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved and to the entire Chiefs organization. :(

I'm absolutely stunned. Apparently they had a 3 month old baby as well. It just goes to show that these players are not robots that they wheel out for our amusement on Sunday's... They have personal lives and issues of their own. My heart is breaking for their families.

Re: Chief's Javon Belcher kills himself and his G.F.

Sad... And over his girlfriend... :bang:

Why would he go to the Chief's facility and finalize his life there?

Very sad and stunning. My regards go to the families and the Chiefs organization.

Apparently the Chiefs head coach and GM tried to talk him out of it and witnessed him commit suicide. My heart is broken for everyone close to Belcher and his girlfriend. Please Lord give them strength... The heart's of the Who Dat Nation are with you all.

It's so sad, and to think that they had a 3 month old daughter... so sad. :-(

What a stunning, strange situation. I hope the people involved can find some comfort somehow.

I wish they would reschedule the game, it just doesn't seem right to play a game in that stadium 24 hours later after what happened. Neither the Chiefs or the Panthers will make the playoffs, so why not just play the game after the other regular season games conclude in early January? For other teams' playoff tiebreaker formula implications just calculate that the Chiefs and Panthers was a tie game.

Re: Chief's Javon Belcher kills himself and his G.F.

neugey, you make a good point.
Tough call, because all you say is true.
Still, advertisers have been paid or paid airtime. People are scheduled to work that such as concessioins, parking people who depend on every few dollars they earn in these jobs.
Plans, plans...but yeah, I agree with you.
For the fans of KCC and team, who wants to be in that building, Arrowhead Stadium right now. The entire broadcast will be about this. The commentators will talk about this .
The coaches, to witness this and , oh gosh.
Tramatic .

NFL player suicides seem to be on a rise.
Very uncanny.
Could, the article says, tramatic brain injury be a reason why?

You're 100% right ... a 'moment of silence' before the game just won't cut it so soon after such an incident.

Interesting theory. I wonder along with the TBI theory, they'll delve into a PTSD-type theory as well. Football is not mortal combat, but at the NFL-level, it is extremely violent and prolonged exposure could produce similiar symptoms, I suppose. Who knows how the human mind will react?

It's a bad situation all around, <sigh>.

Tough situation. I've gone back and fourth but too many other factors that point towards not playing the game. Sqeeze it in somewhere right before the playoffs.

It was the players choice to proceed with game. Sad day here in Kansas City. I am in my Chiefs gear and rooting for a win!

Yeah, Slo-Mo you probably remember how in the NHL they've had those suicides and other untimely deaths in recent years, which were linked to the players having been more of the enforcer type and therefore having received quite a few blows to their heads during their careers.

Although, I doubt that has anything to do with this case, as it seems that it was more of a jealousy inspired argument gone horribly wrong kind of thing, which led to the player taking his own life afterwards.

This was a unfortunate situation that will in no way impede the mega billion dollar entity that is the NFL. Did they cancel the NY game after super storm Sandy?

Best wishes for the surviving family members of both parties

yeah, I remember that ... they tried/are trying to make a connection between nhl-enforcing and that condition boxers come down with.

The way I look at it, the guy was a coward, a murderer, and a piece of $hit. I wouldnt cancel a game over a guy like that. He apparently has been a derelict his whole life, according to another thread posted by AlaskaSaints.

Yeah, evidently the guy was a real POS, but I think you cancel the game not over Belcher, but because of the close proximity of the incident to game time ... give people some time to digest the whole thing ... for the NFL to show the sanctity of human life is more important than scheduling contracts and the almighty dollar or determining who's gonna' make the playoffs.

If it was a terrorist attack or a situation vital to national security, then 'yes', you carry on to demonstrate your conviction & resiliency, but it's only a game played on Sundays and shouldn't be that important.

It's another disappointment by the NFL (to me) in a disturbing trend of disappointments lately and I'm starting to go lukewarm on the sport ... IDK if it's actually the NFL, the fact that none of the teams I ever root for seem to make the playoffs or that seasonal affective disorder they always talk about when winter starts setting in, but something's going on.

"From the Kansas City Star:

Seconds after fatally shooting his longtime girlfriend, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher leaned over her in their master bathroom, said he was sorry and kissed her on the forehead."

So who witnessed this? Or is it some bleeding heart, sappy reporter trying to humanize this SOB?

Based on what I gather this report is coming from his mom (she was there).

Someone saw some signs and ignored them.

"Before the Saturday morning murder-suicide, police said, the Kansas City Chiefs provided couples counseling to Belcher, 25, a linebacker from West Babylon, and Perkins, 22."

From that article above:

"A woman who identified herself as Brittni Glass, an alias, said she was out with Belcher the night before the shootings, saying: " We just went out. Nothing was wrong. It's just a tragedy."

Whoa. Sounds a lot like somebody was out at the clubs, possibly drinking with the strippers the night before. That couldn't have helped things any. Brittni Glass, eh? We don't know all the facts, of course. But "Brittni" was with him....my "gee, that's got to be a stripper alias" alarm bell is going off LOUDLY inside my head, folks. Anybody else hearing it?

Oh, thanks for clarifying that ... I was hoping that was the case and not just a media person putting a little extra something-something in there to embellish the story a bit.
