The Georgia Dome isn’t a bad place, but it’s been the home of the Atlanta Falcons for 21 years and the team apparently feels it’s time for an upgrade. Falcons owner Arthur Blank and Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed have reached a deal on a new $1 billion stadium for the Dirty Birds in what locals call “the ATL.”

Reed and the city of Atlanta have agreed to pay $200 million of the cost, which will come strictly from taxes on hotels and not regular taxpayer funds. That’s definitely a relief to the citizens of Atlanta, but the deal isn’t finalized yet; it still has to be approved by the Georgia World Congress Center (which owns the Georgia Dome and will own the new stadium), the Fulton County Commission and the Atlanta City Council before construction on the new stadium can begin.

The plan right now is the stadium will be ready by the 2017 NFL season and speculation is it would likely host a Super Bowl soon thereafter as the Georgia Dome has hosted two NFL title games. Since he Georgia World Congress Center will own the new stadium, it likely won’t have a sponsored name (ex. Gillette Stadium), so what should the Falcons’ new home be called?
