The star tight end had appeared headed for retirement based on comments he made after Atlanta's NFC Championship Game loss but has reversed course and told Fox Sports of his plans after getting clearance to return from his doctors.

"After discussing it with my family and really, truly struggling with this decision, I informed the Falcons I would like to return for one more shot," Gonzalez told Fox Sports.

Last year was his best chance at going out at least "near" the top, this year he will see a return to form for his birds.

Glad to have him back for one more year! I knew he wasn't satisfied with only one playoff win just like the rest of us aren't.
