3 year deal

Poor Steven Jackson... I always thought it was a shame that such a great player would probably retire without even sniffing a Super Bowl win, but now I know he'll definitely retire without a Super Bowl win.

Exactly my thought. He has always been one of my favourites. No more :-(

So is Steven Jackson going to be good enough to get yards when he gets ball and thats like what once every five plays?

I'm kinda' glad he didn't wind up in Green Bay, but you really hate to see any player wind up in Atlanta-hell.

5 years ago I would have been sweating, but he's an aging back and not as good as he used to be. I don't see us gameplanning much different for Jackson than we did for Turner.

Good running back with his best years behind him.
Also getting very injury prone. I bet he plays 1 year and TBH we face him only once.

No worried Rob Ryan will have us beast when the time comes.
We will exact revenge on every team we face like the red headed stepchildren they are

Has Grimes re-signed yet with them? I heard last he was meeting with dolphins.

He's visiting with the Browns next.

If this was the Steven Jackson of 5 years back, I would be concerned.

IDK, there's a stat out there somewhere that shows the average NFL RB's performance starts to decline after something like 1,000 carries, but that doesn't seem to apply to Jackson. 2,000+ carries and he's never failed to gain 1,000yds with the exception of his rookie season ... and he's played through a laundry list of injuries. All in St. Louis, which says a lot about the guy's dedication. Put him on a team where they have to account for a couple decent WR's and a veteran TE, that's a winning combination.

He almost retired this past season, here's hoping he hangs around with Tony Gonzalez & they both get 'short-timers' attitude.

If I were a fantasy player, Jackson would be my RB pick for next year..

Aging and injury prone, he's still a big upgrade from Turner.

Of course, my old drunk uncle Sam is an upgrade from Turner. Turner sucks. Wish they would've signed him to a long term deal instead. I am going to miss being able to count on him not to gain a yard on first down. Or second. Or third.

I'm certainly not dismissive of an angry runner becoming yet another cog of an already serious O. Especially while my squad still sports such a pedestrian at best D. Jackson hasn't missed 4 games in a season since 08, and he won't be the focal point of the birds offensive plan as he was with the Rams. He'll be a punisher like Lynch. Fresh and inspired. Bad news

I don't look forward to seeing him twice a year, don't care how old he is.

Re: Steven Jackson to the Falcons

I'm just curious if a runner can do as well when he won't be getting as many carries?

I know some rbs in timeshares don't do well. For instance Spiller. As well as looking at what happened to DWill and Ronnie/Ricky when the panthers and dolphins became pass first. I also look at BGE who's production wasnt so great last year or any rb not named Grant on the packers who got little run chances and didnt do much with it. AP slid off for a couple seasons when vikes were becoming qb driven and then went to AP. Now they're becoming qb driven again. Idk I always thought less chances means more rust.

I think the big advantage for Jackson is he's not going to be the only offensive weapon on the field anymore and the increase in red-zone carries he'll see moving to Atlanta ... and besides, who's gonna' take his carries in Atlanta? Jacquizz Rodgers? Here's a good article on it:

Steven Jackson signs with Atlanta Falcons: Escape From 8 in the Box

Re: Steven Jackson to the Falcons

Maybe so but what this does then is take the pressure of Matt Ryan and puts it back on him when it really matters. In games where Jackson gets stuffed, Ryan now is in a bad situation again like he was a couple years ago. Where in games he'll need to throw it more he's gonna make mistakes. Jackson if that good is capable of lessening Ryan's workload that he needs to learn. The top five QBs don't have backs take the pressure off of them. One of them was using the run last year but in the playoffs it came back to bite him. We don't have backs take the pressure off Brees and we should know anyways ourselves that in games where one did it wasnt exactly a good thing for Drew.

Yeah, I'm in no way defending Matt Ryan and have full faith & confidence in him to screw up any playoff run the Falcons make now or in the near future,.

Nearing the end in Turner's tenure with us I really felt like when we handed the ball off to Turner on first down, we might as well start off on 2nd and 10. He'd lost all of the burst he had in 08-10. Not trying knock Turner, I appreciate all he's done for us, but he was burned out.

SJax won't be the bell cow back he was in St. Louis with us. I think we'll stick with being a pass first offense. I think we'll run him based on how much momentum he gives us on offense. I mean 10-20 carries a games. 25 carries rarely.

The problem with 10-20 carries means that he has a chance of being rusty on many of those plays and you're expecting him to be a dagger in the redzone. This is why we made the move for Nnamdi right here. Saints know that the pass rush won't stop Atlanta. We need corners to stop Atlanta and if we get him we have Nnamdi and Lewis defending White and Julio and this actually will benefit Jenkins and Harper believe it or not as they can create turnovers. And Lofton, Bunkley can focus on stopping the run.

Did we ever game plan for Jackson anyways when he was a ram? I mean they were the rams! The one time they were relevant we did stop Jackson. I said this before.

Re: Steven Jackson to the Falcons

I think he'll get consistent reps after the birds get leads on teams. No better way to beat us than keeping Brees on the bench looking at pics with a cap on.
