NFL won't expand playoffs in 2013

Next cut the number of pre-season games in half!!

Goodell also said the playoffs will not expand this season, but it will be discussed for the future. Last December, Goodell spoke about adding two or four teams to the current 12-team format.

''The competition committee looked at some of the issues,'' said Goodell, who added the league needs to discuss expanded playoffs with the players' union, too.

''Now, we have a little bit of work to do before we can advance it. It clearly won't be happening for this year if there was any doubt about that.''

Roger just refuses to leave well enough alone. Every year, he doesn't just tinker, but seems to come up with major rule changes. Now he wants to change the playoff format.

Let's see how many things he is pushing to ruin the game of football:

He wants to play 18 game seasons - Stupid idea, and hypocritical from a man who claims to care about player safety.

He wants to expand the Playoffs - Yeah, let's water it down and be like the other failing sports.

He wants to have teams over seas - Logistical nightmare.

He is slowly turning this league into flag football, and now he wants to penalize running backs for helmet to helmet.

He first moves up the kickoff, making touchbacks way too easy, and now thinks he can get rid of kickoffs altogether - Moron.

I'll stop now, before I vomit and bust a blood vessel.

Looked at what issues, Rog? Like maybe allowing teams with 6-10/7-9 records into the playoffs may not be such a good idea? This guy never ceases to amaze me,.

Even if they do expand the playoffs to half the league I'm sure the Cowboys will find a way to blow it.

Shortening preseason in half would is the only one I'd be good with.
Expanding the post-season is an Aweful idea.
Going to 18 games regular season - too much.

Once teams plug in the data we will see even less return attempts. Watching countless balls sail over the endzone and then straight to commercial is not football.

I'd rather the returner instead of catching it, headbutt the ball before it hits the ground and wherever it lands that's where you start. Something, anything, just not pointless kicking.

Amen! Used to be one of the best -- and loudest -- parts of the game. Now when Morstead tees it up people in the Dome don't even bother cheering anymore. When there was a likelihood of a return you used to not even be able to hear the music, it would get so loud.

1/2 the league makes the playoffs... Competition????

In what other sport does 1/2 of an entire league make the playoffs? There are already heated debates about 8-8 or losing record teams getting into the playoff's.

Adding 4 teams would have put the 7-8-1 Rams in the Playoffs for 2013.
The 8-8 Raiders in 2010 would have made the playoffs.

Next they will be giving out little trophy's for 16th place.

Hockey ... used to be so bad in the '70s/'80s, before they expanded, all but two or three teams in the entire NHL made it into the postseason ... of course, I know that interesting, insignificant piece of sports trivia because that was the "DeadWings" era of which Detroit was always one of the few teams never in the postseason ... <sigh> ... four Stanley Cups since then & you'd think I wouldn't be bitter, ... it wasn't always easy being a RedWings fan.

So hockey playoffs are similar to an NFL regular season bi-week? All but 2 teams playing.... LOL

Re: NFL won't expand playoffs in 2013

Hell, just start the "playoffs" at the beginning of the season. The two teams with the best records play in the championship game! Even better, let the sports writers and coaches vote on who they think is the best team!! We could have a Poll!!! Yeah that's it A Poll!!! College goes to a playoff system finally and the NFL goes to a Poll!!! Priceless!!
