Re: NFL considers banning academically ineligible players from Scouting Combine

They woke up one day with an opportunity, and if they are too stupid to recognize they are being afforded an opportunity that is rare by statistical standards, and all they have to do to get it is get by in college. College for them is the lowest workload, least challenging classes, free tutors, and "help" with grades... If they can't get by with all of that then they need to go find something they pays minimum wage. Why? Because in 20 fkn years they will be whining that the NFL doesn't do enough for broke veterans. If they maintained a 2.0 for three years they would only have one year to be degreed. Brother.... You of all people should be pushing this. I'll assume you have student loans, those players go on to make at least 450k/year and don't owe a dime for the education they squandered. |

Re: NFL considers banning academically ineligible players from Scouting Combine
We have this discussion around the barber shop every time a Lions player gets arrested for something, which was 2x or 3x a week for a while there , and it's really one of those, "whaddya' gonna' do?" type issues.
The NCAA is a publicly/privately funded minor-league for the NFL. Under the guise of providing an education, they recruit and develop players for the NFL. If you start focusing too much on academics more than athleticism, you wouldn't be able to field teams & the NFL owners would have the expense & headache of developing a minor-league system. So it will never change. Back in the day, before expansion (in all sports), positions on a team were less available, more coveted and owners/coaches placed a higher premium on a player's character. More teams means more players & you're eventually going to cut some corners in order to fill rosters. Should they ban academically ineligible players from the Scouting Combine? Morally, "yes". Is it feasible? "No". Whaddya' gonna' do? |
