Was to provide DT depth. — Kevin Seifert (@espn_nfcnblog) July 25, 2013 The sudden announcement comes as a surprise, as Ellis is just 28 years old and had recently signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Chicago Bears. Chicago signed Ellis to provide depth at defensive tackle, but he didn't show for camp. The Saints selected Ellis with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 draft. He started for the team during its Super Bowl run. Ellis, who hasn't released a statement, finishes his career with just 12.5 sacks in five seasons. |
