Chris Ivory forced out of practice when hamstring injury flares up

If all the Saints got out of the Ivory deal was a waterboy, we came out ahead!
*********************************************************

Wednesday was looking like a big day for Jets running back Chris Ivory.

He’d been limited to individual work in training camp because of a hamstring issue, but was scheduled to take part in a full practice for the first time. Ivory made it out to the field as planned, but he wasn’t able to stay there for very long. Ivory had to leave the field after his hamstring tightened up, leaving him to say that he felt he was “starting on the wrong foot” with the team that traded for him this offseason.

“Hamstrings are tricky,” Ivory said, via Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post. “It can feel good and you can go out there like I did today and I thought I was ready, but I’m not ready. So it’s a feel thing. I don’t want to push it and make it a two-week injury. When it’s fixed I want to be able to stay out there and not go back and reinjure it.”

All the usual caveats about it being early in camp apply here, but the last thing the Jets need is an issue at running back and they have two of them on their plate right now. Mike Goodson still hasn’t reported to camp, casting doubt on whether he’ll be a part of the Jets team when the regular season rolls around, and now Ivory is dealing with a nagging hamstring injury that’s keeping him off the field.

When you already have uncertain situations, to put it mildly, at quarterback and wide receiver, it would be nice to have something you can rely on in the backfield. The Jets haven’t found that yet, which keeps the offensive outlook looking bleak.

He should have his own personalized bike.

Damn I guess that's why I guess I'm a fan because I would have rather traded Ingram instead of Ivory but that hamstring is never going to stay good.

This trade just keeps getting better and better by the day and I wanted to keep Ivory but I'm always in favor of screwing the Jets over any way possible

I feel for him. He'd still be here if he was healthy.

And Loomis looks smarter and smarter.

And that, my friends, is why papa Mickey and papa Sean know best. Ivory was never going to be what he already was for us, & our draft was in dire need of an extra pick this year. Kudos to our front office for unloading him when his value was the highest it was going to be.

Yeah and his coach is already throwing him under the bus, so to speak...

I feel bad for him too. He's crazy talented but hes been hobbled by his own body since college.

Why would a guy that has played in 24 games over 3 seasons suddenly get healthy by going to another team, this is for all the " we should have traded ingram instead" people

I love what Ivory did for our team but the right decision was made, just think if John Jenkins turns out to be a stud now

No doubt we made the right call, but MAN I wish he'd get healthy and play up to his potential. I love nothing better than watching him run.

Ivory provides value as a backup, not a starter.

Then again he has trouble getting through camp.

Bilal Powell ahead of Chris Ivory for N.Y. Jets' RB job

Denver Broncos coach John Fox had the line of the day Monday when asked about Ronnie Hillman's place atop the unofficial running back depth chart. "We released a depth chart only because the league makes us," Fox quipped, via The Denver Post.

Depth chart news carried the day, but it's instructive to keep Fox's comments in mind when analyzing the changes.

The most noteworthy depth chart nuggets involve running backs:

» With Chris Ivory once again sidelined by a hamstring injury, the New York Jets list Bilal Powell as the No. 1 tailback. Although Powell has impressed with his first-team reps, this figures to be Ivory's job once he's back to full speed. Coach Rex Ryan confirmed Monday that Mike Goodson's return is not imminent.

» As if to prove Fox's point, DuJuan Harris is listed as the Green Bay Packers' starter even though he's spent training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list with a knee injury. Although Eddie Lacy is perhaps the best bet to lead this backfield in carries, the rookie currently is fourth on the depth chart despite an impressive effort in Saturday night's scrimmage.

» Pierre Thomas tops the New Orleans Saints' depth chart, with Mark Ingram second and Darren Sproles third. There's no reason to believe the roles will be any different this year than they were the past two seasons.

More depth chart news:

» Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne are listed as quarterback co-starters for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gabbert received the first shot with the No. 1 offense in Saturday night's scrimmage and is expected to start the first preseason game. Henne would then be expected to start the second preseason game.

» Although Vincent Brown shined in offseason practices, Malcom Floyd retains the San Diego Chargers' starting wide receiver job opposite Danario Alexander -- for now.

From the depth chart speculation department:

» The Boston Globe views Daniel Fells as the likely No. 1 tight end for the New England Patriots. Undrafted rookie Zach Sudfeld is coming like a freight train, though, practicing almost exclusively with the starters. Former New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard, on the other hand, has struggled so much that he's now in danger of losing his roster spot, Chris Mortensen reported on ESPN's "NFL Insiders."

» With Riley Cooper away from the team to seek counseling, athletic undrafted rookie Russell Shepard is running with the Philadelphia Eagles' first-team offense opposite DeSean Jackson. Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia believes Shepard is now in the driver's seat for the No. 2 receiver job after dominating the first week of camp.

I liked Ivory at one time, but once he started pouting and bickering with the coaches last year and got benched, he became dead to me. Without our head coach, right at the moment when we needed guys to pull together, he goes and pulls a pouty diva trip and starts sulking. No thanks. I don't miss him or his hamstrings at all.

I'm just glad he is the Jet's problem now and not ours.

I wonder if there was a "Healthy" clause in that trade...
