Jerry Rice on Jim Rome Show
I don't like Rome much but found this quote by Jerry Rice interesting. 40,000 yards? Yeah I could see him doing that.
“I joke around about this all the time,” said Rice. “Because I said I had over 20,000 yards, I had over 1,500 catches, I had 208 touchdowns, and I felt like I would have doubled everything if I was playing now because of how they’re protecting receivers.” Rice on Peyton Manning’s time in Indy: “He was everything in that city” « The Jim Rome Show |
Re: Jerry Rice on Jim Rome Show
Bahh. He was on one of the most prolific offenses ever in the history of the NFL - a dynasty built around him and Joe Montana and Steve Young. Trust me, he was the go-to guy all game long.
He doesn't realize that the game has changed. Best teams spread the ball around like the Saints do when they are at their best. You see guys like Graham start off as leading receiver, but now people know how to stop and Sean Payton will be spreading the ball around again. Graham will finish with great numbers, but Rice was the feature wide-out all his career. He was the best too, but modern defenses could also find a way to contain him. Interesting write-up nonetheless. |
Re: Jerry Rice on Jim Rome Show
The greatest players have huge ego's and unmatched determination to succeed. Michael Jordan recently said that he would beat LeBron James one-on-one in his prime (Michael Jordan thinks he could have beaten LeBron James in his prime - ESPN) which goes to show that the best players want everyone to remember that they were great.

Re: Jerry Rice on Jim Rome Show
The days of the go to receiver and 3 down running back are over. Today's NFL is all about finding miss matches, spreading the ball around and running back by committee. AP is the exception but even the Texans use Foster and Tate
