Jim Irsay arrested for DUI, possession of controlled substance
Colts owner Jim Irsay has been arrested in Carmel, Indiana on multiple charges.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Irsay faces preliminary charges of “operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.” Bond has been set at $22,500. Irsay is the first NFL owner to face criminal charges since Eddie DeBartolo relinquished control of the 49ers when it was learned that he was facing an indictment on federal racketeering charges in 1997. In 1998, DeBartolo pleaded guilty to failure to report a felony in connection with money allegedly paid to former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards to procure a riverboat gambling license. http://nbcprofootballtalk.files.word...3q8s.jpg?w=135 The NFL routinely imposes discipline on players and non-players who are convicted of or plead guilty to DUI charges. To have any credibility when punishing non-owners for such offenses, the NFL must be willing to impose discipline on owners, too. When players are arrested for drunk driving, one of the arguments raised is that they can afford to pay for a ride home. With a net worth of $1.6 billion, Irsay definitely can. link back |

As previously said, there needs to be some sort of penalty for the league to have any credibility.

Re: Jim Irsay arrested for DUI, possession of controlled substance
To me this is a lot and I mean a lot worse than Eddie DeBartolo. He should be forced to step down and/or sell the team. The other owners have to set a strong Example on this one.
I know its kinda hypocritical of me to say with the Avatar I have buy i'm just a common joe working man here not the face or leader of a nfl team |

If I were a billionaire, I probably wouldn't even drive a golf cart to my mailbox... I'd have someone do it for me much less having to drive impaired anywhere.

Should all people who get DUI's be forced to resign from their jobs and sell their businesses, or just the really rich ones? |

I wonder how a 4 game suspension works for an owner. He donates all profits from the team for a month? He can't show up at the offices?

Don't think alot of the working class people haven't lost their jobs because of a DUI or a minor drug arrest because There most certainly have been. What would happen to you if you had the same thing happen to you I could almost guarantee you would be having a very serious discussion about your future with your employer

Re: Jim Irsay arrested for DUI, possession of controlled substance
On Monday morning, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He also faces four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance after police found several Schedule IV prescription drugs in his vehicle.
After news of Irsay’s arrest came to light, people in the media and around the Colts organization began sharing the belief that Irsay was going down a dark path. Members of the Colts organization had urged Irsay to enter a rehab facility before everything reached a boiling point, and he seems to have finally taken their advice. The team announced on Tuesday afternoon that Irsay had voluntarily checked himself in to a rehab facility. “Yesterday, Jim Irsay took the first step toward regaining good health,” the Colts said in a statement released on Tuesday. “He voluntarily checked into a highly-respected health care facility and is committed to undergoing the treatment and care necessary to help him meet his challenges head-on. Jim, the Irsay family, and the Colts organization are all deeply appreciative of the incredible outpouring of support and compassion from our fans and the Indiana community.” It is encouraging to see Irsay taking the necessary steps to beat his addiction and hopefully he will be able to get the help and support that he needs to regain control of his life. Whether his decision to enter the rehab facility on his own helps limit the punishment he receives from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell remains to be seen, but that is of secondary importance as his main focus should be on taking care of his health.
