I watch ESPN 30 for 30 Broke a while back.

Im afraid its hard to have any sympathy for those that make more in a year than some of us will make in our lives because they cant get rid of hangers on,spend wisely and as they admit try to outdo each other

Soooooooooo ... they're in college to learn about & play football, and then they're in professional football to learn about life & how to budget?. What a topsy-turvy world we live in, eh?.

I have no sympathy for millionaires, but I am a little bit astonished at the "80%" figure ... I mean, it's understood professional athletes have to undergo a certain change of lifestyle to protect their privacy/assets, et... & there's always gonna' be that percentage that blow it all on strippers & cars, but 8-of-10 couldn't find someone to effectively manage their money? That's a fricken' crisis, IMO.

I'm putting out my shingle right 'chere, ;):

I'm not so surprised at the 80% as that is probably near the percentage of NFL players that make league minimum lol... They are only kathousandaires for a few years then have to fall back on what they failed to learn in college to live for another 40-50 years.

You cant protect people from themselves.

I wonder if its skewed by an enormous amount of players that are in the league for 1 year making near the league minimum.

Even so, its still a lot of money to waste though.

Is it really smart for a publication to post that. I just remember Sean Taylor getting shot when people brok in to his house. Making stuff lik that known won't lessen the chance.

That is totally crazy.
Add him to the broke list now before he even starts out of the draft.

LOL! They all bought watches that keep terrible time. One bought a bracelet.

Run out a buy a 120k watch, before you get a job, just to make sure you are back at your 100k home 10 minutes late after the draft.

Did they buy them or were they lent to the players who just had to bring them up in interviews or do some publicity shoots etc
You often find that alot of jewellery worn at the oscars is borrowed.

I think it was Marquis Lee who was asked about his watch and he said he didn't buy it and it wasn't his.

I am all in favor of living it up a little bit to enjoy success, or improving your lifestyle to better yourself, but some people just don't have any clue what to do with money.

I can't remember now who it was, whether it was Heath Evans or Billy Miller, someone like that....but I remember reading an article about some minor but very hard-working Saints player like that, who was seen driving around his hometown during the off season in the same beat-up Toyota from his free agent days. I remember reading that and thinking it was awesome and smart. There is life after football, the career don't last forever.

Considering something like 70% of Americans live almost paycheck to paycheck from one report I read it's not all that surprising to me. During the government shutdown which was 2 weeks I had two co-workers flat broke. You would think it would have been a wake-up call but nope. They went right back to eating out for lunch several days a week and buying Starbucks. It had no effect.

The NFL already gives them financial classes from my understanding so not sure what can be done. Some people are just prone to spending, it's part of their DNA.
