Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Who you takin?
"Peterson said on a recent radio show that Sherman, generally considered the game's top corner back after helping Seattle to a Super Bow title in February, would struggle if he had to play in the Cardinals defensive system. He also said Sherman isn't the shutdown corner Peterson is." Former LSU CB Patrick Peterson continues war of words with Seattle's Richard Sherman | NOLA.com http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/P...OHb_mWdMgl.jpg http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/R...PUb1vKcIFl.jpg Or is this guy better than both put together? http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/K...E8Qrkc25el.jpg See how I injected some fun on here today? |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Sherman is a cover 3 system guy. Put him anywhere else and he doesn't do as well.
Peterson takes his receiver and covers the whole field with him, Sherman only has to cover 1/3 at most. |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Sherman would struggle without earl thomas being there to bail him out, plus I've never consistently seen Sherman get matched up against the teams top receiver, he gets matched up against 3rd string wide outs and then talks trash when they don't beat him
Patrick Peterson is all round better corner, plus he plays offense and returns punts |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
SJB is going to get taught how to press outside consistently, with his height, that makes it difficult for a QB to drop passes in a basket on the outside.
Mark my words, he is going to be a lot better than some think. |

I just liked the Frankenstein lab option.

Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Its a different approach than we are accustomed to seeing. Normally we are a "stay on him and don't let him catch" sort of team.
Hopefully we transition to a "force the QB to make the low percentage throws". Payton did it with our offense, instead of figuring out what to do against a certain defense, make the defense figure you out. |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
I don't really watch these two players unless they play the Saints. With that being said I'm voting #28 Lewis.

Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
I think they are two very different players. Sherman is the big bump-and-run guy who will jam you at the line and physically beat you up. Peterson is the pure cover guy who can run with anybody.
If I had to pick one it would be Sherman, simply because I think his skills are a better fit for the way the NFL is today. Quarterbacks are so good that even if you have great coverage, they can still hit a window as long as the receiver has the tiniest amount of separation. But if you have a guy like Sherman up beating on the receiver and disrupting their routes, it makes it a whole lot harder to throw to that guy. The thing I love about Keenan Lewis is that he combines both of those abilities. He may not be as good at either style as Sherman or Peterson, but when you add it all up he's one hell of a good corner. |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Depends on what system I'd be running. I would take Revis or Haden over both.
|
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
If i have refs who will not throw flags every-time you hold ill have Sherman but if you have refs looking to throw flags then its Peterson everyday.
I wouldn't want Revis and his yearly demands within a 100 miles of my team but would take Joe Hayden at the drop of a hat |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Peterson hands down. man coverage fits in any system.
|
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
It's a, "who'd you rather?" type question for me & since the Saints already have Lewis and he's a competent corner, I chose the status quo ... honestly think Peterson is the best of the three, unless we're grading post-game interviews, in which case Sherman blows the field away,.

Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Patrick Peterson is the Best Pure Cornerback in The NFL hands down. That being said, he doesn't maximize his talent consistently by being in the right position consistently. I would honestly take Keenan over R.Sherman simply because Keenan goes out, handles his business and hasn't shown a propensity for trash talking thus far. I love that.

Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Cover 3 or not, Sherman is better the Peterson. I think Peterson will end up being better then Sherman, but Brees definitely couldn't complete **** to his side. And he abused Colston and Graham when they lined up over there.

Seattle's D-line helped a lot. |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
They are both very good in their respective systems. Straight up though I'd take Peterson. He has true cover ability and can also pull additional duties if called upon on special teams. He could even be a WR in a pinch. Sherman can't. He has a specific niche and he thrives in it. He's a one trick pony.
Who do you want covering Megatron? Who do you want as a returner? Loose two WR's in a game who would you want as a backup? |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
Peterson is the better one by far.

Peterson caught a pass & threw a completion in a Wk #2 victory over Detroit last season, in addition to covering Megatron ... let's see Sherman top that ... just sayin', ;). |
Re: Patrick Peterson vs Richard Sherman
I voted Lewis for 3 reasons:
1. He's a good cover corner and we all saw first hand what happens when he's not in the game. I think he's more of an impact player for our team then the other two are for theirs. 2. He doesn't run his suck to the media to show how good he is or how much he "should make." 3. I don't vote against my team. Ever. |
