It was the right effin call. The execution was off target. The Pats made a great play, he jumped the route in a last gasp effort and it worked. One pump fake and he's wide open. Wilson got schooled. It's the same move Tracy Porter made and Manning's response: GREAT PLAY. Instead of questioning it how about accept that it was a tremendous play and someone had the nerve and ability to put it on the line and jump it FTW.

THANK YOU. So tired of every armchair QB bandwagon Super Bowl fan saying they shouldve ran the ball. The call for the circumstances werent wrong at all. A great play and bad read were what led to the outcome. 8 vs 5-6 on the line and they couldve been stuffed. Now the run might have worked but it was not guaranteed like everyone thinks it was.

Hindsight's 20/20,

... I did see some stats on the entire league in regards to success in running the ball from the one yard line and they (surprisingly) were not good. There was a stat on Marshawn Lynch only scoring on something like 1-in-6 attempts from the one yard line this season ... also not good. The only stat supporting a Marshawn Lynch carry in that situation was that the Pats defense had allowed the majority of runs from the 1 against them to score, so yeah, once the shock & awe of the whole thing wears off, it was just a rookie being in the right place, at the right time, making the right decision, in probably the biggest game of his life,

... Butler did say in an interview that they had practiced defending that play & Belichek had admonished him to get it right ... it's going down in history, that's for sure,

Despite all that, I still can't believe they didn't just pound the ball 4x, either with Lynch, Wilson ... whomever ... but hey, not my call,

There's also the theory that Belichek not calling a time-out near the end and thus not giving Carroll more time to mull things over contributed to the call ... I can see that ... jedi-mind tricks by Bill ... "that's not the play you want to run Pete, you want to throw the ball ... "

I have to disagree. Wilson sucked all day. He completed a few lucky passes, but overall, his passing sucked. I realize one of his passes got them to that end of the field, but it too was s fluke. That ball should have been run. They should not have let the clock run like they did. Like Slomotion posted, there was no surprise in the play. They telegraphed it to 4 billion people around the world including the defense on the other side of the line. It was a stupid play, not just in calling, but in execution.

Just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions.....

I did hear some talking heads on the radio saying that if it had been another QB, say Romo, the QB would be getting crucified, instead of the coach. I think that is accurate.

Payton Manning didn't get bashed at all for his pick 6 in the SB from my memory or the cocah. It was hailed as a great play and not much else was said about it.

This is how I see this one as well but being on the goal line, no time, other options...say they run Lynch and he gets stuffed twice with a wide open receiver then it goes the other way. Should have thrown it blah blah.

That's because Payton Manning wasn't on the one yard line with three downs, a timeout, and the best RB in the NFL to win the Superbowl. Manning had what, 60 yards to cover to win the Superbowl. He had to pass.
