Illegal Bat The Ball-GATE, Detroit vs Seattle game

ESPN producer on illegal bat: “We all missed it live” | ProFootballTalk

Crazy how this cost the game for Detroit. Sorry to see that. Slo. Even crazier that BSPN whiffed on this as well.

Here is the original article.

, it's being called "Bat-ghazi" around here. I was escorted from my favorite, local, MNF-viewing type place though,. To be fair, the owner had asked me at lunch to come back & watch the game there and I did warn him it might get ugly,.

Fine play by Kam Chancellor (SEA), makes me wonder/ask why the Lions DB's aren't coached to do that, #scratchhead. And then Jim Caldwell's lukewarm, nonchalant reaction to the whole thing,. If I ever meet that guy, I'm taking his lunch money, just sayin', quit rolling over on some of these calls and voice a little displeasure over getting screwed, for crissake, :burn:.

I didn't know the exact rule at the time, but I did remark that it was a "forward hand-pass" similar to what happens in hockey and that the ball probably should have went to Lions ... hence the alleged altercation with the morons at the Seahag's table, allegedly..

Detriot got screwed on that call.

Just more proof that the replay system and what can be challenged needs a lot of work. No excuse that refs that are being paid to know the rules, dont. The ref in the end zone should have been fired. To have a blatant no call of this magnitude is inexcusable.

+1. That back judge couldn't have been no more than 5 feet away from the play. How do these refs NOT know the rules (illegal bat) at this level?

What was even worse is that all of the refs got together to deliberate & still missed the call :argue:.

Inexcusable is an understatement.

I have always wondered why there isn't a penalty for when the player trys to punch the ball out and misses but hits the other player.

It look intentional to everyone but the refs.

, nah, it was a brief (but loud) "STFU-before-you-wind-up-having-to-use-that-#12-jersey-for-a-tourniquet-or-sling"- gate,. No harm, no foul, I was in there eating lunch & sipping ice tea Tuesday afternoon, :). I warned 'em, I don't like to drink during Lions games, #shrug.

But whattya' guys think about this: Matthew Stafford’s Wife Shames Lions Fans, Says Matthew Will Continue To Fight For Detroit « CBS Detroit

A coupla' dumbasses Facebooked themselves burning a Matthew Stafford jersey a couple games ago ... obviously Failclown transplants, ;). Anyhoo, Kelly Stafford goes on Instagram and disses the city & the fans with a broad, general statement, WTF?! All's I can figure is he met her in college, University of Georgia, and she grew up a Can'tlanta fan figuring that kind of stuff (jersey burning) is commonplace everywhere. Drama! Like Detroit fans haven't had enough BS over the years that they now want to hear from the player's wives,.

It's gonna' be that kind of year ... WWBD ... what would Brittany do?

#sigh.

It was under the two-minute mark and couldn't be challenged? But yeah, in what sport can a player advance the ball, puck, sphere out of play and possession not be awarded to the other team?

Fine. Your team should never put themselves in a situation where the ref's could decide the game anyway ... that's the mantra we live by, but geez! This is becoming almost s.o.p. with these calls & the Lions and they just take it as business-as-usual, dum-de-dum, go-about-our-day. Caldwell has about as much fire/motivation as a plank of wood, just sayin'..

Yeah Caldwell is too laid back, I'm telling you if it happened to SP steam and bits of Juicy Fruit would be coming out his ears.

To me this goes back to the same ol same ol, thing I always say. I read a really cool article years ago somewhere (wish I could find the link). Basically, someone did a psychological study on referees, using anonymous questionaires, and they found out that if the refs think in their heads, that you are the better team of the two, they will give you the calls, subconsciously. If they think you are a bad team, or trying to get over on them, then out come the hankies. That's why teams like the Packers, Seahawks and Patriots get so many favorable calls, and for the rest of the league, it's talk to the hand!

So I'm not really surprised that they muddled this call, given that the Seattle defense has all the hype and fame, and Detroit has so little respect. Not that the refs were doing it consciously, on purpose, but in the big picture it is far more important for them to save a "good" team like Seattle's season, with a miracle play, than it is to call it correctly and give Detroit the potential win.

Spot on, Bro ... was just talking with my bud's (more like violently venting,) about the Lions basically just giving up vs the Cards and "the Call" came up. Upon further review, the line judge there is seen going for his flag before deciding not to make a call. What was going through his head? Probably figuring the game was in Seattle and if he & his homey's wanted to get out of that stadium alive, best leave that flag in it's place, eh? Undoubtedly, he's also figuring Caldwell & the Laydowns ain't gonna' make a stink about it, so why risk a beat down at the hands of the 12th man?.

I honestly may be done with the Lions for good after this season, :( .
