Manziel, Winston, Newton,
We have arrived to the new crappy era of NFL QBs. This is awful.
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
All three seem to lack a certain level of maturity, but we judge our QB's on winning games, not necessarily their behaviors. At first glance, I'd say Manziel is the only one that isn't gonna' catch on, Cam wins games & Winston's a rookie who shows promise. Upon further review, none of them really show up in the stat columns except (profootballreference.com):
Passes Intercepted - Jameis 9, Cam 9 Yards/Pass Att - Jameis 7.6 Yards/Pass Cmp - Cam 13.3, Jameis 13.2, Manziel 12.3 Net Yds/Pass Att - Jameis 6.80% Pass Int % - Manziel 1.6% Passing TD % - Cam 5.5% Game Winning Drives - Cam (2) Comebacks - Cam (2) The biggest stat that sticks out with Newton is 9-0. Yeah, he has a pretty solid team around him, but he is definitely the leader of that team. It's still early, but Winston has had flashes that he could do the same with the right coaching/team, IMO. Is it Tampa Bay? IDK. Manziel? IDK what to think, he hasn't played that much, is hot/cold and plays for Cleveland, which undoubtedly contributes to his confusion. The QB position is not as exciting, IMO, like the days of Montana, Elway, Kelly, Aikman, Young, Moon, et ... or even Staubach, Bradshaw, Stabler, Plunkett, Fouts, Tarkenton, Theisman, et ... mostly due to the parity in the NFL, but there's still enough talent in today's QB pool, ie Brady, Rodgers, Palmer, Manning(s), Brees, Roethlisberger, Flacco, Rivers, et ... to compare. :) |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
That kid Marcus Mariota from the Titans has impressed me the most.
Another player from Hawaii that look's promising. |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
The immaturity is a pandemic in the NFL.
However, could this be a result of social media making everyone a star with a pinch of Fantasy Football? Hell, years ago, it would a struggle to name the QB of a few teams because it really didn't matter to me. I like Russell Wilson, but do I like him because he has carefully managed his social media or is he genuine? He is not elite and the talent purchased to make him elite failed to do the job. And what is up Dalton going after Watt? There is a recipe to grow a good QB. Favre, historically, may have been the best chef to ever play when you consider his backup QB honor roll. The NFL is broken. And like a train derailment, we continue to watch it. |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Maturity? From Scam Newton? Pfftt. Only 1 example needs to be made and it is from from this weekend.
You're the QB of an 8-0 team on the road against a 2-6 team from the other Conference. In the 4th Qtr with 2:48 left, you score a TD to put you up by 17. What do you do? You show your hiney in the end zone...like an eighth grader. I literally see more maturity at high school games than when I see Scam Newton play. We need QBs besides those in the mold of this pea-brained dingle-berry up in Carolina to infest the NFL for the next decade or so. |

I had heard that Favre was immature, partying, and single in the 90s when he was winning for GB? Is this true? |

Yet, he played with pure love and respect for the game. And the funniest stories are the most common; he never assumed you knew who he was and what he did for a living. Brett would shake a hand and introduce himself. |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
I like Derk Carr
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
He and Mariotta are the only two with Luck to show something?^ I think Cook is also decent, but Hackenberg, guy looks like a inflated Cutler. Those awkward looking guys always end up being more immature than you thought they would. I expect Hack to be another drama qb.

Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Blame the college coaching environment for the decline of qb play but I don't see anything wrong with Newton's play. Out of all the new generation qbs he has the least to work with and he makes play when they need him too....I take him as our qb...yeah he made a mistake in the pass but you haven't heard of anything negative about him since his college days.
As far as the dancing goes...I don't really have a problem with it....you don't want someone dancing then don't let them score or make a big play... |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
I wouldn't want Cam anywhere near this team.
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Newton's behavior for a QB is ridiculous. I respect their 10-0 record but not their QB. He's such a joke. A couple of weeks ago he pulled down a fan's banner before the game. I've never heard of any player doing that. The banner read Carolina Cheese head.
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Yeah, that banner-pulling incident was pretty ridiculous. That's really the only problem I have with Newton is his lack of maturity/professionalism. I find separating Cam-the-person from Cam-the-player (and a few other "pro" athletes like him) helps, :). Like in another thread, I use all the dancing/celebrations as an opportunity to switch games, make fridge runs, et ...

Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Yeah, here is the video of the Wonder Child pulling down the fan's banner.
Isn't the game for the fans? Scam has the maturity of an 8 year old. |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
Manziel, is throwing it all a way. That kids just doesn't learn.
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
If Winston keeps playing like this, I'm going to have to go crow hunting after the season is over
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
If a Falcon fan did that in the Dome and Brees tore it down he'd be a LEGEND!!! As an old boss used to say "It all depends on who's ox is getting gored!"
|
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
There are literally 20 QB's you can start in Carolina and they'd win 9 to 12 games each year.
Cam Newton is the most over-rated QB in world history. |
Re: Manziel, Winston, Newton,
He has talent but no class! It's a shame because a lot of kid's look up to him and he displays poor sportsmanship.
