Packers’ books show NFL teams split $7.8 billion in national revenue

The NFL’s 32 teams split $7.8 billion in shared national revenue last season, or $244 million per team, as revealed when the Packers released financial information today.

Most of that money comes from the league’s TV deals with NBC, CBS, FOX, ESPN and DirecTV, although the figure also includes licensing and merchandise revenues. Last year’s revenue was a 10 percent increase from the previous season.

Packers President Mark Murphy, whose team is publicly owned and therefore required to open its books, said the latest revenue figures show the league is in good financial shape.

“We’re very fortunate that we’ve seen the kind of growth that we have, and I feel very confident that we’ll continue to see it, at least through the rest of this collective bargaining agreement,” Murphy said.

The $7.8 billion figure does not include local revenues, which are worth another $6 billion or so.

Calm before the storm. ESPN and Direct likely won't survive another 5 years. The new generation of fans is also thinning out.

Paid TV is down 23% from last year and it steadily drops every quarter. They can't get new subscribers on tap anymore. Even lowering the price has failed.
I love the game but we are probably going to be one of the last generations to see the sport this popular. I give it less than 10 years before it starts sliding fast.

Goodell went for market saturation with the game and I think the suits in NYC lost sight of the common consumer of the game...

They've alienated fans with unaffordable, uncomfortable live game experiences, unless you're in a luxury suite...

Middle America likes to keep its Football separate from its politics; between Rooney Rules and Kaepernick, they've responded...

And they've invested billions in the game overseas to develop those markets and the Europeans and So. Americans just aren't biting...

And then there's the reality of CTE and the sobering reminder that until they develop the uber helmet, this game now has an expiration date...

With the gangster-thug life of the NBA today putting an urban ceiling to the ProGame Market...

I'd expect Baseball to return to the forefront in 10 years, if not sooner, if they ever convince their teams and unions to establish salary caps and revenue sharing to achieve some parity...

If it includes TV deals, merchandising, an licensing, $244 mil seem low.

The game evolved well but there is nowhere else to go with it. No helmet tech is going to stop that amount of force unless it has a force field and it feels like hitting a a firm pillow.

Sometimes wonder if Louisiana could've pulled off what Green Bay has done with public stock in a football team - Hmm???
