Papa John is right: NFL needs better ingredients

Another week of tough hits like this and we might have to put the entire National Football League in concussion protocol.

How many fingers am I holding up? How many players are kneeling during the national anthem? How many sponsors are complaining? How many military veterans are refusing to set foot in your stadiums? Can you name the former player accusing you of collusion? How many of your tax breaks is Congress looking to revoke? And how about that great seven-game World Series produced by Major League Baseball?

You're a looking a little woozy there, NFL. I think we should head for the locker room.

The first blindside shot came from league teammate John Schnatter, the CEO of Papa John's pizza empire, who blamed his company's lagging third-quarter earnings on the players' national anthem demonstrations and what he called "poor leadership" at the top.

"This should have been nipped in the bud a year and a half ago," Schnatter said. "Like many sponsors, we are in contact with the NFL and once the issue is resolved between the players and the owners, we are optimistic that the NFL's best years are ahead. But good or bad, leadership starts at the top, and this is an example of poor leadership."

Stock in Papa John's, which is one of the NFL's biggest TV advertisers, was down about 12 percent in trading after Schnatter's comments Wednesday (Nov. 1). He blamed his company's woes on the league's sliding TV ratings.

Sounds like a man blaming his bussiness poor performance on others. Maybe he should lead from the top and actually make a edible pizza

Doesn't matter how much they advertise or where, when Papa John's has a product and business model inferior to those of the competition.

Domino's has been taking market share from them for some time now. It didn't start this Fall either.

Even DiGiorno is mocking them.

This sounds more like excuse building for the next shareholders meeting.

When i first tried papa johns when i was a junior in high school it tasted really good and we ate it for years. To be honest when they got the nfl sponsorship years later the quality of the ingredients went down so bad we havent touched it since. When the money came in he prolly got greedy and started using crap ingredients to keep more money in his pockets. If he puts out a good pizza again people will eat it again.

Dominos stock is up 11 points over last year. Yum brands (Pizza Hut) is up 30%.
People are boycotting this douche-bag more than they are the NFL.
Know your market, dumbf***. The millionaires you rub elbows with aren't your customers.

Yeah Papa John's is average lately and a bit below Domino's these days, but if Papa leaves the NFL I'll gladly throw a Papa John's pizza party for my kids' friends when I can.

I would just like to take this moment to say that domino's has the worst f***ing pizza on the planet. How they're ahead of anyone at anything is beyond comprehension
