They've got several other players to address with contract extensions including, but not limited to OT Jake Matthews, DT Grady Jarrett and RB Tevin Coleman... And then you've got All-Pro DE Vic Beasley, and LBs Deion Jones and De’Vondre Campbell right behind that to get done... Julio is just gonna have to learn to stop spending all his money on losing $150K diamond ear rings... |

Despicable Dirty Bird..

He knows about where he lost the ring. Dude, keep your mouth shut and learn how to scuba dive in the off season with a metal detector. Geez..
He also has no leverage on his contract. He signed a long term deal, 3 more years and he is old. Falcons have you by the balls. |

10.5M base plus signing bonus (source:Spotrac).
Poor fella. |

And let the diamond distraction begin...

Maybe he should have signed a shorter deal (see Kurt Cousins, Revis), trust in your ability, become a FA then get paid a zillion dollars. |
Re: Report: Falcons tell Julio Jones he won’t get a raise before 2018 season
He should do whatever he can to maximize his earnings. I damn sure wouldn’t be worried about honoring contracts where all my money isn’t guaranteed. Hopefully he forces his way out of the NFC South.

After having him the last few years in FFball, he's no longer a consistent week-in, week-out threat, but a few monster games vs lesser teams... |

I fully expect Julio to be suited up and ready to go by game 1 of the regular season. Arthur Blank will find a way to make his super star happy... again.
Again, players should consider signing shorter contracts if they want to control their future earnings. |

Bird called it The Big Mo referring to players that shut it down once paid; later it became the Roger Dorn Effect (i.e. Major League)... What makes more sense is an average market standardizing of performance-based incentives, bonuses pay tied to the salary cap/television revenue... Performance-based would be tied to things like games/snaps played, Team W.A.R. statistics (team success with player contributing), and individual stats... Not as weighted - pro-bowls, all-pro/mvp honors as those honors are often unfairly skewed to larger, favorable NFL markets (the same ole 10 teams)... At the end of the day, Julio signed a contract, took his up-front money and spent it and it's on him to be responsible with his money... Same as a contractor, electrician, plumber, mason, mechanic, painter quoting a rate - they have to honor an agreed rate, so should football players... For what it's worth, Falcons felt they're playing it smart and not allowing one of their top players become a distraction - but they're screwed long-term in negotiations... |
