Why Nick Saban Coaching ... the Green Bay Packers Makes Sense

On Jan. 7, Nick Saban will hoist the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy as confetti falls at Levi’s Stadium. It will be his seventh national title in college football, breaking his tie with Bear Bryant for most all time by a coach in the modern era and securing him, finally and unquestionably, as the greatest college football coach of all time.

Two days later, a handshake agreement that took place weeks earlier will become official. Saban is announced as the next head coach of the Green Bay Packers, promising at least one more Super Bowl with QB Aaron Rodgers to a starving fan base while also looking to clean up the one blemish on his pristine coaching resume...

It would be a seismic move in the football world, one that may not have an equal in the past quarter-century. A number of things will be fairly questioned: Saban’s age, how his previous NFL experiences have panned out, how his coaching methods might work on adults making millions of dollars.

And for this scenario to work, a few things must be in place. Saban must first be satisfied with his legacy in college football—and after this season, he will have the most titles in college football history, which will allow him to leave the Alabama program in the best shape possible for his successor. He would also have to be paid at least $10 million per year, an NFL salary that only Jon Gruden and Bill Belichick command. And he’d have to convince his wife, Terry, to move to a colder climate. (They will probably keep their Georgia lake house.)

But Saban coaching the Packers could be the coach’s best shot at winning the Lombardi Trophy and QB Aaron Rodgers’s best opportunity at getting another.

I don't see it. The odd of winning a Super Bowl are long, very long.

1 - In the NCAA coaches recruit. If you're good, you can fill a roster with stars pretty fast. In the NFL you draft. You're lucky to get 2 starters and 3 or 4 keepers a year. The Saints set a record in 2017 with four starters. So, it will take a few years to turn the program around with new blood.

2- Looks like the Pack has cancer. The Saints were able to cut/trade four or five problem starters. Cancer gone - team wins. Funny how that works. In Green Bay's case it looks like the cancer may be the QB. Kind of like having inoperable brain cancer and the only cure is amputation. Good luck with that.

3- Saban would be stepping into the lions den (figuratively). He would be taking a team that is on a downward trend and trying to win a Super Bowl against some of the highest powered offenses to ever play. Even if he wins the NFC north, he has to contend with the Saints for another 3-4 years (hopefully) and the Rams. Only then he gets to play in the Super Bowl against NE or KC or Houston.

Can't see it. I think he likes being the big fish in the little pond.

Agree with above post. Don't see Mr. Saban leaving Alabama.

I don't see why he should leave.

I don't see him leaving right now....Alabama is just too darn good for him to take a chance on leaving, not with Tua out there being insanely good for at least another year, maybe two. And from what I heard from my Bama friends, Saban's got Tua's younger brother in the pipeline as an Alabama commit as well, he's coming down the pike, and nobody walks away from something once-in-a-lifetime like that.

I could see that type of scenario happening at some point in the future though, if Saban ever decided he wanted to go back to the pros. Just not now.

Why would he do it? He is successful and has the most successful program in the nation. He can get away with anything in Alabamer and does
