The idea that the Patriots benefit from a weak division is a bit overstated and largely a myth.

Do they beat up on a bad division? Yes, but they also kick the crap out of the rest of the NFL.

The Pats have a high win percentage also against the supposedly super tough AFC North. They routinely beat down all 4 of those teams, and that division is supposedly the toughest in the AFC.

They have the highest win percentage of any NFL team vs opponents outside their division. More than anything, the Patriots flattening Buffalo, Miami and the Jets is largely why that division is so bad.

They don't benefit from it like how the Colts did the AFC South in Peyton Manning's prime (and the early Andrew Luck years) or the NFC North during Aaron Rodgers' prime. New England don't skid into the playoffs with a 10-6 or 11-5 record often like GB and Indy have done.
