DeMarcus Lawrence agrees to five-year, $105 million deal

The Cowboys deal with DeMarcus Lawrence is nearly done, NFL Media reports, with the parameters in place on a five-year extension worth more than $100 million.

PFT reported earlier today the sides were nearing a deal.

Lawrence will get the most money ever in the first year of a deal for a defensive player, NFL Media reports. Khalil Mack had the previous best at $41 million.

Mack averages $23.5 million a season to lead all pass rushers in yearly average, with Von Miller coming in second at $19.1 million per season. Defensive end Trey Flowers left New England to sign a five-year, $90 million deal with Detroit, ranking him third in annual average.

The Cowboys used the franchise tag on Lawrence for a second consecutive year, but the defensive end had no plans to sign the $20.5 million tag for 2019 and has postponed shoulder surgery until he got a new deal.

PFT

Too much $ ... good for him, but bad move for the CowGirls.

Good for DLaw. That's a handsome contract.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Zeke, Dak Bortles & Amari Cooper down the road at Deathstar nation.

Will not matter as long as Garrett remains their head coach. He is now the longest tenured head coach to not reach a conference title game. The other coaches who are also long tenured (Belichick, Tomlin and Payton) have all made it to at least one in the 2010s.

Won't be long till they get the out the axe to cut off that Golden Goose's head. How long before Jurah starts complaining about "Players Salaries"?

It's been reported locally here that DLaw will be out 4-6 months after surgery. The natives here are becoming restless :p...

Yeah, he put off signing the franchise tag AND surgery, putting the heat on Jerry and the Cowboys to hurry and get something done...

Boy, I sure miss the days of Mr. Finks when mgt had a pair...

Jones & Son have set it up nicely to get a replacement for Dak by having Dak exit in Free Agency because there's not enough soup after DeMarcus Lawrence took a big gulp of salary cap...

Stephen and Jerry better come up with Plan B because Dak Bortles and his agent aren't accepting a "team friendly" deal.

Keep on eye on what happens with Carson Wentz's new deal up in Philly.
