They ruined him. This kid should've been something special. The Colts mismanaged his entire short career by sticking him behind pathetic o-lines.

Whatever you think of Peyton Manning as a person or player, he did not deserve what Irsay did him with that press conference when the Colts cut him. It has to be brought up cause their owner is terrible and mishandling Luck is only the tip of the iceberg. This all goes back to how he put Manning out the door to begin this era with Luck.

The "I want Super Bowl wins, not Star Wars numbers" quote will never be forgotten. That whole press conference was so bad and him saying that with Peyton standing right next to him the entire time. Here you have the QB who took your losing franchise, and elevated them to a level of respectability and even won a SB, and you tell him his stats are "Star Wars numbers"? Irsay deserved every minute of watching Peyton in Denver uniform make the playoffs and ultimate win a SB in his last year.

Irsay was also quoted saying Luck needed to "toughen it up" after his injuries. He refused to take responsibility by waiting a whole extra year to get rid of Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano. Why was Grigson even hired as GM, I will never know. He was a scout in Philly and there were reports that the Eagles office was completely stunned when the Colts took him for GM.

I wish Luck a happy retirement. I enjoyed watching him as a player and wanted to see him become an elite QB. He's a likable guy off the field and I sometimes wonder if he would've had a better career elsewhere without the Colts tanking the whole 2011 season to get him.

Wow - if not for the injuries he couldve been Top 10 all time. He was a classy guy - I wish him all the best in his retirement

He could be playing for Washington if he wasn't a Colt and that's an even worse place to play. If Washington still wanted RG3 he probably would have been a Viking or Brown. Not better either. Hw wouldn't have had three straight 11-5 seasons with those teams. The problem with the Colts was what happened after 2014 when they tried to beat NE by signing aging players.

Those Colts teams were mediocre at best and looked it when they were blown out in the playoffs.

They boasted 11-5 records from playing the worst division in the league.

Of those 11-5 records, they were going 6-0 against their AFC South rivals, then 5-5 vs the rest of the league. They would get throttled by top tier AFC teams like New England and Pittsburgh.

While everybody loves to talk that nonsense about how the Pats are only good cause the AFC East is so bad, that talk is actually true for the Colts and Packers of the last decade. Both have struggled against non divisional teams while usually dominating their crappy divisions to barely squeak out a 10-6 or 11-5 record.

It took the Chiefs pulling a 90s Oilers type choke job to get the Colts a playoff win in 2013. New England destroyed them a week later.

In 2014, they played way over their heads getting passed a Denver team whom had an offense that had been struggling for a month now. They were blown out by New England a week later.

The AFC South became competitive in 2015 and the easy division wins for Indy ended afterwards.

Great article by Warren Sharp about how Grigson set all this up for Luck to stay injured.

He took the most hits of any QB of the past 5 years.

Grigson only drafted 3 offensive linemen after the 7th round and they were all trash.

Man, reading that quote that Cha Ching posted, if I'm Andrew Luck, I'm turning in my papers and retiring too....funny thing is, the Colts had a pretty great O line in the Peyton Manning era, including Jeff Saturday and Tarik Glenn and some of those guys. Luck was running around back there behind one of the cheapest O lines in the league. Really puts it in perspective.

Yeah, this is true. The Colts under Bill Polian prioritized the o-line and took great measures to protect Manning. Their o-line was always strong even in the last years under coach Jim Caldwell. Polian had also built some top notch o-lines in Buffalo back in the 90's when they had their 4 year run. Those lines were essential in protecting Jim Kelly and when Thurman Thomas won a league MVP.

Irsay proves that he learned nothing from Manning's neck injury and how he managed to alienate him from the team. That press conference they did together was so terrible, and Irsay's quote "I want Super Bowls, not Star Wars numbers" was the most disrespectful thing he could've done to the QB who DID bring them a SB victory and got them to another one.

Irsay was quoted some time last year saying Luck needed to toughen it out and maybe take some aspirin. This is not an owner who cares about his star QB. You'd think he would have learned the first time around with how he treated Manning and threw him to the curb.

Luck's injuries were no joke. He had multiple shoulder injuries, but the one that got me was the lacerated kidney. That's organ damage right there. I agree with you, if I'm Luck and just got married and have a kid on the way, I'm taking retirement too and focusing on them.
