Jameis days are numbered at TB

Unfortunately his replacement may wind up being Teddy Bridgewater.

Kind of on the same topic ... I think the writing is on the wall for Marcus Mariotta as well. He stunk (Tannehil came in) it up yesterday in a losing effort.
Jameis and Marcus came out of that same draft class of 2015. |

This isn't technically true. Mariota has always ranked in the 20s on first down percentage which is a key stat. One year Sam Bradford completed 70% of his passes but it turns out he wasn't really all that efficient cause his checkdowns weren't converting first downs. First down percentage for some reason is an underrated stat when it comes to stat nerds. People focus way too much on TD/INT ratio and INT percentage. I see this with people who nitpick to death QBs who throw a lot of INTs in key games, but will ignore the first down markers. First down percentage SHOULD be a stat people focus on cause well, it's the QB and the offense's job to march down the field. It's easy in this era for QBs to put up what appears to be great stats and their teams still lose cause of them. This is the case with Aaron Rodgers; whom really only has his deep ball accuracy to lay back on. "Most accurate quarterback in the NFL", hasn't ranked in the top 5 on first downs since 2014. People will go on and on about his INT percentage being the lowest in NFL history, but he don't light up the scoreboard anymore and my favorite random statoid about him is that Peyton Manning in 3 years (2003 to 2005) threw more first downs than Rodgers has his entire career. Rodgers is pretty much the anti-Manning when people look at his advanced stats and realize he is pretty much a slightly above average QB. |
