State lawmakers scoop up tickets

LINK

State legislators are buying nearly 300 tickets for the BCS National Championship Game through LSU and requesting hundreds more directly from the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Each of the 143 legislators -- many of whom leave office a week after the game -- had access to two tickets from LSU and four more through the Sugar Bowl.

None of the recently elected lawmakers, who will be sworn into office on January 14th, has access to the football tickets.

Kristine Calongne, LSU spokeswoman, says every one of the tickets from LSU was ordered.

LSU is playing Ohio State University in the championship game January 7th. Some tickets are already selling for more than $1,000 each online.

Some legislators who said they would not attend the game plan to give tickets to friends or colleagues, but others are using them to help the underprivileged.

State Senator Bill Cassidy, a Baton Rouge Republican, said he is donating his six tickets to good causes, including a ticket raffle to benefit those with Down syndrome.
