Hingle faces federal corruption charges
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Irving "Jiff" Hingle, who resigned today, will face charges for accepting bribes and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office. According to the Bill of Information (Note: not a grand jury indictment and often an indication that a suspect is cooperating with investigators) Hingle accepted two $10,000 payments from Aaron Bennett shortly after he approved a $333,000 invoice from Bennett's Benetech, LLC for federally funded disaster recovery work.?
