Documentary Birth of the Living Dead screens at Zeitgeist
The entire zombie apocalypse thing ? not to mention that last 45 years of seat-of-your-pants guerilla filmmaking ? can be traced back to 1968 socio-political horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Directed by then-28-year-old college dropout George Romero with a budget of $114,000, the film inspired countless imitators before being selected for preservation by the LIbrary of Congress through its National Film Registry in 1999.
