I\'ve read that Ratzinger was something of an \"enforcer\" appointed by John Paul II, and that he\'s pretty conservative. Sounds like the church intends to stay the course, which is probably the right way to go given that John Paul II was one of the most popular pontiffs in history.

I am a bit surprised a German was chosen, though. Many \"experts\" seemed to believe an Italian would be the most likely choice.
