Who did you guys want? To my knowledge there was no championship winning coach available.

Monty was an assistant at San Antonio, you want to go back to the well? And European championships mean nothing to the NBA. That would be like an English Premier League team hiring and MLS coach.

I wouldn't get too excited about Gentry ... basically a .500 H/C at most his gigs ... certainly no big deal when he was at Detroit, ... was kinda' hoping NO would hire Van Gundy.

The GM is from San Antonio. I think we're all hoping he knows what he is doing. Although, looking at the talent we used to have that is playing well around the league, one has to wonder. And we had hoped that Monty had learned from whom is arguably the game's best coach, Coach Pop.

SMH too. It's not like there weren't choices with the opportunity for a guy to coach AD.

Well, the rumored first choice, Thibs, said he wasn't interested. Van Gundy was interested, but, hasn't coached a game in how many years? Skiles went to Orlando.

That leaves Gentry and Del Negro (who's record as a head coach was not stellar) as the coaches you haven interviewed.

Given all that, I don't think it's a bad hire.
