Rajon Rondo Sets Pelicans Record with 25 Assists vs. Nets

http://blackandgold.com/images/pixel.gifRajon Rondo had 24 combined assists in his previous five games entering Wednesday's contest against the Brooklyn Nets and then proceeded to dish out a head-turning 25 dimes in just 30 minutes in a 128-113 win.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com), Rondo set the New Orleans Pelicans' franchise record for assists in a single game with his performance.

"The No. 1 thing is we got the win," Rondo said, per the AP. "And then me, personally, I love passing the ball. I've been blessed to play with a lot of great players, and what I take pride in is making those guys' jobs easier."

Rondo scored only two points, but his facilitating allowed a number of others players to contribute.

Anthony Davis led the way with 33 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks, while DeMarcus Cousins added a double-double as well with 27 points and 14 boards. Jrue Holiday (23 points) and E'Twaun Moore (20 points) provided secondary scoring from the backcourt, and the Nets never challenged after falling into a 23-point deficit by halftime.

Cousins went as far as to say the team "looked like the Harlem Globetrotters at one point," per the AP, as Rondo ran the show and got everyone involved.

ESPN Stats & Info and Elias Sports noted the point guard made more than just Pelicans history in the process:

While it is unrealistic to expect Rondo to consistently replicate his record-setting performance from Wednesday moving forward, his presence in the backcourt with Davis and Cousins anchoring the frontcourt has made the Pelicans a dangerous team heading into the middle portion of the season.

They will look to keep things rolling Friday when they face the Dallas Mavericks.
