My guess is that this is the factor in getting Tebucky Jones. The Saints were offerring a 3rd round this year, and the Pats wanted a 2nd. I'll bet they agreed in principle on a 2nd next year and this gives them the ability to give that up without affecting their standard draft position.

Just my thought on why it is a 2004 pick.
