3 Reasons why: 1.) Lifestyle - In the 60's, 70's, players partied HARD and football players were underpaid. They smoked, drank and gambled a lot! Not to say they don't now, but seriously doubt they smoke cigs. In 70's and 80's cocaine hit the NFL scene and players abused their bodies. Today, players are a lot cleaner and playing drunk will make you look like the Jets every weekend. 2.) Rules - QB's enjoy a lot of pocket rules since the late 90's that have changed player longevity. 3.) Healthcare - in general, people live longer because we have better access to healthcare now. Medicine and Sports Medicine surgeries are actually a thing. Back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, if you got hurt, you got pain killers and a shot of cortisone and were told to go play. Cortisone has its place in medicine but it actually prolongs the healing process and hides underlying injuries. WOW - I can't believe I wrote all that crap. WOW 2 - I can't believe anybody will read all that crap! ![]() |
