Thomas is a Saints legend. At least he is for me. He was a great NFL punter. But I get it, the NFL is a business.

Arguably, he executed one of the greatest plays in Saints history (Porters interception may be the best)....On side kick in the Super Bowl. Momentum changer in a game that featured one of the best in P Manning. I guarantee every fan remembers the play, maybe not who kicked it, but the play. People/fans owe it to themselves and to our team to always remember his name. Thank you sir, appreciate you and everything you did for the city and organization.

Morstead has been nothing less than pure class. He can, of course, choose to return at a much reduced cost, but he has been smart. There is little doubt that he is set for life. A Saints' legend for sure.

The last few years showed some decline, but Morstead gave us a ton of great years of dominant punting and he will leave a large void in the locker room. Best of luck to him!

I'm not sure covid changed the outcome or not. It seemed pretty clear to me the direction this was going when Gilliken was signed to the original 53, then stashed on IR. It screamed punter of the future.

And for the Saints spending money borrowed from the future finally caught up with them. They are $50+ million over. There is going to be a lot of pain dished out in the next week.

There is pain being dished out all across the league. All of these veteran getting cut are not going to find themselves in any kind of bargaining position for a new job. They'll need to just tread water until the cap explodes in a couple of years. I heard yesterday that with all of the new broadcast rights contracts (now including Amazon Prime) that the cap could be as high as $350 million in just three or four years. That makes sense since the projections are that the contracts could easily double the previous totals.

Hopefully we see him again, even in another jersey he is still a class act and always exhibited exceptional character.

Maybe he goes t Atlanta and we can see him on their 3and outs :)

Great punter and great guy. He always had time to talk when I saw him. He played rugby so you know how I feel about him. He was the best tackler on the team. I'm glad I have several autographs. Don't be surprised to see him still punting in the league next year. Gillikan has some big shoes to fill! I hope he's up to the task.

A punter who was on a team that won the SB?

How time flies... had not realized he was on the team for 12 years. He's got a few years left in him. It's too bad we live in an era where his is the result of a cap casualty. Or was it? The Saints seemed to have planned this since last year in preparing with the young Mullet Adorned Kid from Penn State.

Fair enough but that might be the least notable thing about Morestead. For over a decade I cant remember one single Saints fan *****ing about his performance... ever... not a single kick... That's rather frikken remarkable for a Saints player lol. He is pretty much the definition of automatic.

He stopped performing kickoffs in 2015 so his contract should have seen a decline due to reduced role but it didnt.

Morestead could do amazing things with the ball punting for hang time and directional punting as well as Kick off and pooch kicks. If we needed him to kick off again he could have. That's why he got paid. He was a blessing.
