Saints interested in Richard Sherman

What do yall think? I think he will be too expensive and the Saints go after too many over-30 defenders and take too much injury risk. I would rather gamble on someone younger with more upside to find the next Demario Davis or Jabari Greer. Find some athletic backup who hasn't had a chance yet. I feel like a veteran of Sherman's age and history is a win-now move that would be boom or bust, and we need to manage risk and build for the future. |

Just depends on the $$$. Has a pedigree, obviously not what he used to be, but has a solid relationship with Richard, probably has something left.

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
If Kris Richard sees him as valuable to the secondary, then go for it. He could be a solid #2 CB and mentor.
|
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
A strictly zone CB who can’t run anymore? Nope.
|
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
But he's not a Buckeye LOL
|
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
I think Sherman has proven successful at more than just "zone coverage"

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Herein lies the problem - Sean wants for a long time...
...But a 2020 calf injury limited him to just five so-so game appearances, and now he’s a free agent before turning 33 on March 30. That may not deter Payton and the Saints, though. They have a history of gambling with past-their-prime stars, ranging from Sherman’s one-time teammate Brandon Browner to Champ Bailey, Kurt Coleman, Adrian Peterson, and Olin Kreutz.... |
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
The Saints will bring in another boundary vet opposite Lattimore. Not sure if it's Richard or someone else but we need a proven vet to help & mentor. Consistency was a problem with Latt. Maybe adding Sherm along with the teachings of Kris will bring out the elite, shutdown corner we all believe he can become.
But for me personally, we need to move towards the youth movement & subsequent draft. Take our lumps in the secondary like Tampa did. Elijah Molden, Horn, Newsome are high on my CB prospects. I was hoping we landed Awuzie in Free Agency but he's a Bengal now :(. |
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
The last thing I want is another db from Seattle. The last one committed a Penalty every other play and let the wr catch the ball on the ones he didn’t.

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
It’s not that I don’t think he’d be serviceable, I’d just prefer somebody with more speed. He can play that Cover 3/Cover 1 defense the Saints are so in love with, but I’m not in love with the idea. The thing about fan opinions is too many of them are linked to whether or not they like the player. He could come in and be Darren Sharper kind of catalyst in the secondary. And he does a hell of a lot for the community. I’m with K Major though, per usual.

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Slightly off topic, but I just heard an interesting stat. Over the last 5 years, the team that has spent the most on free agents has the worst record record of any team over that span. Thank you Jets! That means they’ve sucked at Free Agency AND at drafting. Wow!

Thought we should have took a corner last draft but I’m sitting home cutting grass and raisin tomatoes

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
It would be nice but I'd rather have a rookie on a cheap contract. Would signing him cancel a comp pick?
|
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Why the hell did they let Janorius Jack Rabbit Jenkins go?
He was perfect opposite Lattimore And complemented Cauncy Gardner Should have kept him and go out and get a key linebacker When Kwon was in the defense really gelled |

But the team is full of individual players. Some people dont like some individual players and would prefer not to have them on the team for whatever reason. I'm not a big fan of loudmouth show off players or players that are more interested in themselves than the team. Or players that I feel have questionable ethical issues or are or could be a distraction on or off the field. Hell, some fans may not like a player because they played well against the Saints in the past or because they cheap shotted a player. There's tons of reasons. Same goes with coaches. I work in a team oriented profession. And although some people may be good at the job, I would rather not work with or want certain people on my team for various reasons. It could be work ethic, how they treat other team members, supervisors, community members or their own family. Production is not always what's most important to me. Just my 2 cents. And I'm sure its because I'm 42 years old and maybe I'm a bit old school. Doesn't matter in the end really. That's just my opinion. And like the saying goes, everyone has one but not everyone will agree with each other. |

Richard Sherman is a leader on and off the field. Does outstanding community service in the greater Compton, CA & Seattle areas. Just never understood the hate on a guy who is highly intelligent, has the hardware & ability to help every team he's been a part of. Coaches and teammates love him. Don't think we'll sign him though. How does that old Buddy Ryan saying go on evaluating players ? ... "If you listen and think like fans, you'll be sitting up there with them" :p. It is what it is I suppose. |
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Sherman at the right price could really benefit the Saints, I can see it.

Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
We are over the cap and need to sign draft picks. We pushed 85 million in dead money into future years. We are not sure of our starting qb. What we dont need is an expensive aging cornerback to win now. We cut Jenkins because we cant pay $10 million to a #2 corner who is old.
Sherman presents the same problem. We need to find cheap young players. |
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Again, Sherman was only available for five games last year - a 33yo CB (in four days) was available for only Five (5) games...

This thread brings to mind an evil thought... Bring back Kurt Coleman?
:bng: NOT! |
Re: Saints interested in Richard Sherman
Coleman's a year younger than Sherman, and it sounds like Sherman may be heading to the Jets.
But back to Coleman I'm sure Home Depot would let him go at the right price.. |
