After losing several key players in free agency, the New Orleans Saints are closing in on their first move toward replenishing their defensive line depth, finalizing a two-year deal with free agent defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon, a league source confirmed.

The NFL Network was the first to report the two sides were nearing an agreement.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Kpassagnon in the second round of the 2017 draft. The 6-foot-7, 289-pound Kpassagnon appeared in 61 games in his four seasons with the Chiefs, recording 75 tackles and seven sacks in his career.

His best season as a pass-rusher came in 2019, when he recorded four sacks in the regular season and two more during the Chiefs' Super Bowl run while playing 62 % of the defensive snaps.

I want BuddyD to come back and pronounce his name.

If he was signed, does this offset any draft pick the team would have been rewarded for losing T Rex ?

EDIT..Holy Cow..6’ 7”! That should snag some beignets!

It's based upon their contracts and how they perform. Kpassagnon's contract is not compensatory, I believe.

If his last name is a word then I've got a game of Scrabble to be won.

There is some analytics chart of times double teamed vs effective pressures and he is in the bottom left, ie the easiest pass rusher in the league to shut down with a single blocker. Maybe he is good against the run.

30% of his career 10 sacks are in the playoffs though, so maybe he brings a certain tracy porter factor that our current defense is lacking.

Tanoh came cheap at a position of need. Big guy like Davenport.

High potential & he's a smart player with hardware and ability to get to QB's.

What's not to like ?

Good bit of his contract is incentive base, so doubtful it affect the compensatory formula...

Well, let's see what Ryan Nielsen can get out of the reserve defensive end...
