Did Drew Brees Cost the Saints a shot at the Super Bowl? | The State of the Saints Podcast

Yes, with a healthy Brees, the Saints would have made it to the Super Bowl and would have beaten the Chiefs.

I think we would have killed the Chiefs. We came very close to beating them when just about every starter on our roster was banged up fairly significantly. It was Drew’s first game back and he obviously wasn’t ready. A healthy Drew and we would have beaten them fairly easily. If some of our other starters were healthier I think we beat them even with Drew playing the way he did.

At the end of the day, it's all SP's fault, and for a number of different reasons, not the least of which is knowing the rule book as good as BB.

Yeah. Blame everything on Payton. The players had nothing to do with it. They shouldn't have gotten injured, but it was Payton that got them injured. It was also 100% Payton's fault that those three refs all missed that play in the Rams game.

Hence the rule book reference... if he knows it like BB, those miracle plays don't even exist. The clock runs out. :chug:

With a healthy Drew Brees we beat Tampa and lose to GB in the NFC Championship game. Mahomes wins his 2nd title.

That headline screams click bait. The very premise that the people that got you there are also the reason you failed is absurd.

Probably. He admitted he only felt good for one game.

Exactly! Thus the ridiculousness that Sean Payton is to blame for the Saints not winning more championships. Without Payton the Saints would have mostly likely wallowed near the bottom of the NFC South for the past 15 years and not even been in the conversation when it came to the playoffs.

No.
SB, SB.
Folks , there was a time when you went to Saints games to just go, socialize .
Hey, if Saints won, how nice.
1970s, 1990s.
I remember when the Saints won a game one season. 1 game . Just one.

This coaching staff, this qb, many wonderful other players all just came about at the same time.
If you did not have this, there would not have been one SB win.
Every season has been pretty good.

It is good Brees retired. He really was something here . I mean he has to listen to his body. He has to give it ip at dome point. Now was time to retire so good.

The statement is shallow and myopic.

Is Sean Payton infallible? No

Before Sean Payton was the HC of the New Orleans Saints he was the QB coach for the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys. No one on this planet predicted that Brees would have been a HoF arguably GOAT when he was at San Diego and Sean had a hand in bringing him to that status just like Sean and Drew had a hand in any success that Bridgewater, Hill or Winston have had.

I mean sure, you could argue the combination of Haslett, Ditka, Phillips, or Mora paired with Hill, Winston, or Bridgewater could have done the same in 2020 but I wouldn't. Hell, put all four coaches and all three QBs on the field in 2020 and you wouldnt get the success we had.

I believe that the wearing of face coverings has starved brains of much needed oxygen:bng:
