As you can tell by me not posting until now, I literally turned off the TV and went to bed after this pick.

Do not feel better about it this morning, despite these "high-riser" reports.

That's high praise. I've always felt Wayne Martin was unappreciated in his time, despite the one ProBowl nod.

Yeah... that’s always the way people talk after the first round. I recall hearing a lot of people saying “Marcus Davenport is a freaky athlete from a small school just like DeMarcus Ware” a couple of years ago.

Well, Marcus IS a freak athlete like DWare was.

Just gotta stay on the field.

Exactly! Davenport is a freak and can wreak havoc in the backfield. He has simply been sidetracked a bit by injuries. There is a very well known saying in NFL circles, "The injury rate in the NFL is 100%". It's not IF you suffer an injury, it's when.

The list of players that were “freak” athletic specimens that didn’t make it in the league is very long I’m sure. I’ll start with JaMarcus Russell.

There is no question about Davenport's abilities. That has not been an issue. It has been the injuries that have limited the playing time. When he's been in there he looks great. Injuries happen to EVERY player at one time or another.

I hope so. Davenport is going to be a stud now that the injuries are behind him. He's looked great so far in his limited time.

Hmmm don't agree.

Guy has been extremely underwhelming.

For the phenom athlete he was pegged to be, he has not lived up to any kind of hype.

12 sacks in 37 games, roughly 1 every 3 games, which makes around 5 sacks a season. Not the guy that 2 first round picks should be spent on.

He's played hurt. That turf toe was hindering at minimum. While his sack counts might not be high his pressures have been among the leaders. He has shown flashes of brilliance when healthy. There's a reason why his fifth year option was picked up. He's also been used more in run defense than in passing situations.

Re: NFL Draft First Round Watch Party Mega-Thread

You want him to be better than Davenport, not another one. No matter how you want to slice it, he's underwhelmed since he's been here. That doesn't mean he can't still be a very good player, but he needs to stay healthy and produce. Cost and production hasn't added up and that's reality.

I think it's great you're an overly optimistic Saints fan Guido but sure do **** out some rainbows.

And others around here do nothing but b!tch, and moan, and complain about everything. That's the one thing I hate about the draft. It's like clockwork.

Same here.

From reading up on Turner, he started off at DT then transitioned to DE. Guy can play both positions. Key word here is versatility … considering we lost Sheldon, Brown & Hendrickson.

Re: NFL Draft First Round Watch Party Mega-Thread

Davenport is entering his 4th year in and its still he's is a Athletic freak,if he can just stay healthy.

He can't do much about when he is drafted but he cost Two 1sts and 5th.
And he is still talked about as a raw prospect. For that capital you want someone who is getting you at least close to double digit sacks each year. He looked like he was progressing from his rookie to second year and then took a massive step back. They have now guaranteed him his 5th year option that what makes the pick last night so puzzling unless they are thinking of cutting Cam next offseason

Would you have felt better had the cost for Davenport been two 2nd's and a 3rd?

Well, given the fact that the two firsts were both at the tail-end of the round the value of the two scenarios are virtually identical. I keep hearing "two 1st round picks". They are not much different than two high 2nd rounders.

So true. Its like no one has ever seen the Saints draft since Sean has been here they never go with the pick anyone suspects but yet they hit gold.

They've been doing this even before Sean. The draft is an open invitation to criticize with no qualifications.

In three years once they have been properly evaluated.

The best player available to those in the know. Which means none of us.

I'll guess Molden or Mills so it'll probably be some random Division 2 player.

There goes Marshall

Another big WR in the division.

Got to be Jabril Cox or a CB here.
Or possibly Nixon to sure up the line

Im guessing Kwon will be back, but little depth there or CB
