Biggest Win - Full Draft in 2022!

There is much debate about our picks, whether they are reaches or sleepers. But to me, a key win is that we go into 2022 with a full draft slate. Yes we lost a 6th rounder over Goodell's BS, but we probably gain a 3rd, 4th, and 7th or something in compensatory picks. So we have more than a full slate of picks for once, barring any major trades.

I am against trading up, but there is a key difference between trading up entirely within the present years draft, which we did in the 3rd round, versus trading future picks. When we trade future picks, they trade at an ~40% discount, its like taking out a payday loan and paying interest up the nose just to keep the lights on. Yeah, that interest is the going rate, the standard value, but so is the interest for the payday loan. When you make trades that only involve present year picks you are not trading at a discount. You are just trading two later picks for one earlier pick, typically. When you trade future picks, you might be trading two picks for one, and the one might not be earlier.

So, 2021 will be an exciting season. Nobody knows how it will go with a new QB, lots of free agents gone, new players having to step up. If it works out, great. If not, we could have a high pick to take a new QB. If we had traded away our 2022 1st round pick to get some corner or oline, we would have had no insurance policy. Now we do. And we have ammo to move up in 2022 for a QB if needed, or other high quality options if we find our QB. And if Winston or Hill is great but our defense gives up 500 passing yards a game and we end up with a high pick but don't need a QB, we can trade back, get a CB of similar quality to Horn or Surtain, and extra picks!

So who's the QB du jour for next year then?

Just keep stirring the pot, huh?

It's Winston. End of story. It must be a special kind of delusion to look at the comparative resumes and think anything else. If the Saints' brain trust didn't think Winston was capable of leading the team, then they would not have reupped him at any price.

Book might have moxie. But having 5 years starting experience in the NFL trumps any college experience Book is bringing to the table.

I'm so sure of this I'm willing to bet: one whole dollar.

We won't know until 2-3 years out.

If winston doesn’t work out, then we will have a very high pick in 2022. Using our 2021 pick on a position of need and then having a high 2022 pick to draft a qb directly and then having our 2023 pick to draft another position of need is a better plan if Winston doesnt work out than bundling or 2021, 2022, and 2023 picks for a qb now with seeing what we have in Winston. If we do have to get a new qb later, its better he have a supporting cast too.
