Fan Or Fanatic?
The title speaks for itself. Are you a fan or fanatic?
|
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
I'm a recovering fanatic.
I used to eat, drink, and breathe everything Saints and NFL related but life after marriage and mortgage got crazy and my focus has been on many other things. |
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
You don't survive the A. Manning, K. Stabler and Richard Todd era's as a fanatic, that would be Lunacy....One would have to be a true fan, or just crazy....I fall into the crazy, FAN side but not fanatic, as I have learned over the years...success can be fleeting.

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
Does getting a fleur de lis tattoo make me a fanatic?

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
Fanatical in youth. Wiser fan as I age.
|
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
At this point, fan. I perhaps was fanatic at one time, but am getting too old for the stress.
|
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
Used to be a fanatic. More of a fan now. Life, family and the invasion of politics into sports have pushed down the importance of Saints football and other sports for me.
|
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
Probably a fan. I'm usually not unbearable after a loss, even a bad one. But I have a sentimental streak about sports and tend to get emotionally invested at times. I mean, tonight I am getting almost choked up wondering if I just watched Federer's last Wimbledon, with all of the memories of the last 20 years just rushing back into my head. 😢 Paralells with Brees' last game?

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
At the stage in life that I am just a fan.

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
I am actually quite surprised that we do not have more fanatics on this board. The energy spent by the members here is just amazing. Who dat!

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
I seriously do not understand the difference. I have always been a fan and am fanatical about it I suppose. I have read some say they are only fans because they don't get destroyed over a loss. I get disappointed over a loss, but no where near as upset as most around here that claim to be "just fans". When we lose I mostly just move to the next game after a brief respite.
And that brings me to wondering what would be a negative interpretation of being a "fan" versus being a "fanatic? |

Absolute Fanatic 38 years.
Season Ticket Holder / Tailgate organizer. Watched 1/2 a game last year that was on at my cousin's house. Don't know what their record was last year or how far they got in playoffs. (I think they lost to Tampa. Dont know the round.) Same reasons as cited by others above. |
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
I am still a fanatic and usually go to training camp but I just feel deflated without Drew and don't want to watch a QB contest with two players that I don't believe in. I'm still a fanatic who will be scouring the internet for news from camp though. Who Dat!

I’ll mention the elephant in the room and say I became less a fanatic of the league when they started taking political stances. My fandom decreases the more they do so.

Dear NFL, I don't care if a player is gay, black, white or if they identify as a goddamn tree stump. I just want to watch football without hearing about it!!! |

Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
The NFL has become a soap box for players to air their grievances. It's so bad that I even have a hard time watching my Saints. If I weren't a Saints fanatic I'd give up watching completely.

I refuse to let any of it get in the way of my enjoyment. I don't know how many more years I'll have on this Earth so in the scheme of things it is all meaningless. |
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
I'm not 100% convinced ill watch the NFL this season and so cancelled my gamepass subscription.
Years ago I'd be itching for the season to start, just doesn't get me excited like it used to. Rule changes, political agendas, being screwed out of big games, all have taken their toll I think. The only reason I had twitter was to keep an eye on Saints news and its just a ****show now, everyone is called a racist for having an opinion that doesn't match other people's. Its just tiring. |

I may feel different in a few months, but at the moment I'm leaning towards not spending Sunday nights watching it. In years past, that notion has never even crossed my mind, I've had a gamepass subscription since 2008 and this year is the only one when I've felt indifferent enough to not be bothered about keeping it. |
Re: Fan Or Fanatic?
Fan is short for fanatic so…
yes. |

Most of the time, now, it completely escapes my mind. In the old days, Id have the schedule memorized and my projections for how they fall tv-wise, as well as my projections for wins/losses (every year we were going to win the super bowl.... from 1983 on) I watched (and some of you here will remember me openly praising how much I love PRESEASON games. I WENT to preseason games. I also WENT to training camp in MS. I live in Houston, TEXAS. Planned my vacation around it. I used to start losing my mind, getting on wives nerves in July. Now its 2021, and I cant tell you when opening day is, or who they (used to be "we") play. You can call me any name you want. Knuckle-dragger, whatever. I used to be called a Fanatic. My money is green, and Im not sure I'm an isolated case. |
