CB Xavien Howard... should we?

You didn't watch the video yet, did you? :chug:

A first rounder... :bng:

I would. Howard is an above average cornerback @ a position of need. This would be an ideal scheme fit for him and Kris Richard is a hell of a secondary coach.

I have very little faith in Ken C., PRob & PJ on an island for 4 quaters & I don't think Keith Washington will be given much of an opportunity.

At least make the call.

I’d send a 1st for him. It’s a coin toss between him and Jalen Ramsey for the top spot.

Re: CB Xavien Howard... should we?

No way would I trade a 1st. We could be flirting with a top 10 pick next year with Ian Book being the only QB under contract and more roster trimming to get under the cap.

Who was our first this year

Definitely pull the trigger for a shut down corner
Over an unknown commodity

Outside of the Bucs playoff loss
Every one has come down to our defense not making a stop

Agree with this.

Proven guy over the unknown. The Draft is a crapshoot … specifically at QB.

Let’s not forget the Saints were trying to make moves and go up in the draft for Jaycee Horn a few months ago.

Yes, Brother Smash, as I got the head's up and watched Matt's show on YouTube Friday; I'm asking the forum rhetorically at what price?

And that's the consideration I'm for which I'm looking...

Now granted, Xavien just turned 28 and has probably three good years of elite, experienced CB play left in him...

But would he be worth a Top 10 pick when the real Jameis Winston shows up?

No way for a 1st.
He's being paid 12ml a year, and wants a rise. He signed a 5 year deal and wants it upped after 2 years. This team needs a influx of cheaper rookie deals not shipping them out for a player wanting a 15ml+ a year deal

We'll have the #32 pick next year. Trade it.

So trade for a guy making top dollar then turn around and pay top dollar to Lattimore, Marcus Williams and Gardner-Johnson after this season? Otherwise what? Let Lattimore walk for a guy three years older than him?

Lattimore already got paid I think.

That number doesn't tell the entire story. Contracts are nuanced and intricate. If you look at his contract closely, 2021 is his last year of guaranteed money. Next three seasons = 0 guarantees on his contract, hence why he asking for a new deal.

Some think the Fins want a "1st", but say the Saints could swing the deal for a 2nd & package a player that would be golden. If you can land Xavien in NO, I'm sure Loomis could always restructure his deal & offer him more guaranteed money ... Ultimately, this is why he wants a new deal in South Beach. Nothing is guaranteed with Lattimore long term in New Orleans.

XH is a baller (led the league in INTS) but probably a long shot however I'd still make the call ;).

Due Diligence.

And there it is - Howard wants a sliding scale contract such that he's the highest paid CB in the NFL...

Per Over The Cap, we're ($37,647,048) over in 2022 of the current projected number which is probably lower than what it will be...

But it's still in the ball park and Payton just had Loomis do the Washington Two-Step with the budget so there's not a lot of money to roll forward...again...

Make no mistake, there will be some cuts to some prominent names on this roster next season, some that some could argue should've happened this season...

But committing to a now 28yo Howard means not extending what will be a 26yo Lattimore...

As much as we'd like to be All-Pro at every position, the Free Market (Free Agency) and a Salary Cap won't allow it...

Saints got a steal in Adebo; the caveat is Sean will have to act like it's 2017 again and start rookies, let learn, gain experience, get better...

Not disagreeing that a 28yo Howard isn't worth a 1st, but what's the cost? the overall, final costs?

That's why I don't like giving up a first for him. I would want a little more than 3 years out of a guy before he starts to decline. But, what do I know?

Re: CB Xavien Howard... should we?

We simply can't afford him and keep the rising players we already have in New Orleans. He's good but not worth the overall cost of losing key players down the road because they want to get paid too. Go young and let them gain experience.

Re: CB Xavien Howard... should we?

As thin as our defensive line is now that Onyemata is out we need to be more aggressive than ever. Our secondary is going to get torched and if you have to throw Adebo back there it could destroy his confidence right out of the gate.

Re: CB Xavien Howard... should we?

Seems like it’s a rare Occurrence when a team can afford to have two shut down corners being paid accordingly on the roster. While it would certainly help for this season, it would certainly set a course of not having Lattimore and Williams in the future. That, along with the picks/players needed makes it iffy.

The time to win should always be NOW. There's no way to read the future. We could be decimated by injuries in the coming years. There's no telling.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

We could be in striking distance of Derek Stingley Jr in next year’s draft with a cheaper rookie contract to pair with Lattimore.

True, but I’m not sure making that trade puts the team over the top to win this season more so than a trade for a dominant DT, or WR say. If you are Taking on that contract and draft capital commitment then I would look around a bit first.

And this player you want to trade for sounds like the “two in the bush” to me as it will take multiple draft picks/players to get the bird.

Not saying I want to trade for him specifically. I'm just saying I'm all in on trading picks now for whomever will help. And if we make the right moves that pick will be later in the round and worth far less.

... top five pick? The problem there is LSU for SP.

Why not look to trade for JC Jackson from the Patriots? The Patriots gave him a 2nd round RFA tender.

If he's RFA, then no trade needed. Maybe that's what SP is waiting for, camp to begin and FA to be cut for more help.

CB spot #2 ….

Losing Janoris stings but let’s see who steps up to the plate and accepts the challenge. Like I stated earlier, I’m hopeful we bring in another proven vet.

Training camp is almost here.

Know it's not the popular opinion, but I'm not afraid of the growing pains with playing rookies and I really think we stole Adebo in the third round...

Understand it's semantics, but I'd taken Paulson Adebo where we took Peter Werner in Round 2 and have taking the LBer in R3...

Point is, am glad we got Adebo and want to see him given the opportunity to start right away, to get up to speed faster...
