Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
|
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
A guy who's only had success in the slot?
We've got three capable guys backing up Gardner in the slot already... At 5' 9", and a bum shoulder missing seven games last year, this seems like Jason David redux... And he gets targeted often; he rushes the QB, but we've got enough DEs to do that task... |

Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
If they envision Poole in the nickel, does Gardner move to his natural position of SS? I'd be all for the latter...
Is he made the CB2? Gardner has no extensive film to support that he has the skill set to play outside CB? While I'm all for Gardner taking over at SS, Haley and PJ Williams were fine in the nickel... Why are we throwing money away on another nickel when we need a WRz more? If we needed to sign anything for the defensive backfield, it was an outside CB... Jets now have Arthur Maulet and we get Brian Poole?!? |
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
D.A. must really be doing a number on Sean to get so many resources for his secondary...
RCB (2) 23 - Marshon Lattimore, 26 - P.J. Williams (FA 2021), 38 - Keith Washington Jr. NCB (2) 34 - Brian Poole, 30 - Grant Haley (RFC 2021), 31 - Bryce Thompson (UDFA 2021), 35 - Lawrence Woods (UDFA 2021) FS (2) 43 - Marcus Williams (Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag 2021), 48 - J.T. Gray (FA 2021), 32 - Eric Burrell (UDFA 2021) SS (2) 27 - Malcolm Jenkins, 22 - Chauncey Gardner, 36 - Deuce Wallace (FA 2021) LCB (2) 29 - Paulson Adebo (R3, P76), 21 - Patrick Robinson, 25 - Ken Crawley (FA 2021) Crawley would appear to be odd-man out now... |

Looks like they like the rookie.

Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Maybe he's loading up the defense because he knows the offense is going to suck balls this year. Lol

“ Or maybe he's loading up the defense because he has confidence in his offense.”
I tend to lean towards this way of thinking. Considering what was lost player wise from both sides of the ball I have more confidence in the Offense going into the season by a slight bit. |
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Good signing & adds another veteran presence. Here is a quick breakdown.
Welcome to New Orleans :bng: |
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Gardner-Johnson to line up outside?? That’s the only way this signing would make sense.

Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Camp body?
|
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Is the rational that the last guy we signed from the Jets was so good, this has to work guiding this signing?
|
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Oh boy. Another camp body....

"Poole profiles as one of the more impactful free agents still available following the two best seasons of his career with the New York Jets in 2019 and 2020. He has been the 13th-most valuable cornerback in the NFL over the past two seasons (per PFF WAR) despite missing half of the 2020 season due to injury. Poole has been particularly stingy in coverage over that time frame, allowing just 472 yards in over 600 slot coverage snaps". Don't believe so Rugs. Kris Richard is a very bright secondary coach. I'm sure he has a plan. |

The more I listened to his observations on Brian's play over the last 2 seasons up in NY, the more encouraging this signing will be for New Orleans. Already a good player in his prime, ball hawk ability & now gets coached up by Richard. Little risk, big reward type signing. Underrated player because of the team he used to play for. I like this move ;). Training camp is here :bng: |

I agree with Larry that CB still is the biggest hole on those boundaries although he didn't sound all too confident that Kwon would re sign in New Orleans. He also made a good point about our current WR core ... not a lot of confidence in 3quan & Deonte' staying healthy for a full season. Hopefully we go after another WR. Paul Hogan seems like a depth piece to me. I'd love for the Saints to propose a trade to Dallas for Michael Gallup. He's a legit talent & consistentely gets open in crucial moments. |
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
Or maybe he is loading up on defense because CGJ, Williams, and Jenkins obtained some illegal firearms and robbed a steroids store during which they tore their mcls which they tried unsuccessfully to rehab before having a surgery yesterday during which they failed drug tests and were arrested. This would not be out of character with the rest of our offseason.

The 13th most valuable corner sounds very promising. As you pointed out Kris Richards is a very bright secondary coach and I still can't believe Payton finally got his man that he admires so much. |

I heard they also tested positive for COVID during this ordeal. |
Re: Saints Sign CB Brian Poole
I'm eagerly waiting to see what Noah Spence can do. I had a good vibe about him last year and had heard some really good things about him before he got hurt. I also have a good feeling about Tanoh(I can't spell or pronounce his name yet). He's also a good run stopper in the middle which we need right now. He's a versatile player and we all know how SP covets that.
