I'd be willing to bet they vetted the idea prior to making the announcement. The good news is that after years and years on the waiting list for season tickets we may actually have a chance.

Probably in the fine print of the season ticket agreement that the team has the authority as well. Doesn’t mean there won’t be a lawsuit though.

People sue all the time, but only a tiny percentage ever makes it into the system due to lack of grounds. I wish they'd let people opt out if they agree to withdraw their future rights to season tickets. There's 50,000 of us out here that would gladly buy those rights.

We had season tickets to both years of the Canadian Football League franchise, Shreveport Pirates. Been on the Saints waiting list for about 15 years. They had the lottery for available ticket last week and we got passed over again.

Seems like if I had season tickets and didn’t want to go through whatever protocols were required, I’d figure out a way to sell the individual games on stubhub etc and still keep my seats.

That's basically what the team said in their statement, but they suggested SeatGeek, instead. We've had more luck finding decent tickets on SeatGeek.

However, I'm hoping some tickets holders "throw the baby out with the bath water" and choose to not renew next season.

It is a precaution to help fighting Covid I'm fine with helping keep our fans safe in the stands.

My wife just got the email from the Saints! There are single season tickets available and we were selected off the list. If we can find two somewhat close to each other we'll get them regardless of the price. Once you are a season ticket holder you can upgrade or change when available, so we should be able to get side by side seats for next season.

There will probably be a couple of games we won't be able to make it to so we'll offer them up. Tampa Bay on Halloween may be one unless the cruise we are booked on is cancelled.

Most don't make it to court due to settlements which are rarely disclosed due to NDAs and typically benefit both parties.

I am sure there is language in the contract agreement when season tickets were bought/sold, but either way the next few years will be full of litigation for many different reasons.

Great time to be a lawyer.

Anyone season ticket holder who doesn't want to go due to the vaccine requirement will have no issue selling tickets. There's probably a 200-300% mark up right now on Seat Geek for a lot of seats. Yes, this might reduce demand somewhat and drop that down closer to 100% mark up, but recouping what they paid won't be a problem.

Well, the Saints announced they only had 120 inquiries from season ticket holders about refunds for unvaccinated ticket holders that did not want to show proof of a negative test. Therefore, they decided to go ahead and open up refunds with the tickets going straight to the waiting list of, in their words, "loyal fans".

They were contrasting the Saints' fans who would be new season ticket holders to visiting fans who would buy a portion of the tickets that would be sold off by unvaccinated season ticket holders.

I didn't read their statement as a suggestion that the unvaccinated fans were not loyal as well.

I'm just pointing out the their stated reason was logical. Now, their stated reason may be a pretext and their real reason was to avoid litigation, but it was logical. (It is simply not true that only a very small percentage of lawsuits survive. In any event, it's not a good look for a franchise to be sued by fans over an issue like this).

My wife has been a malpractice claims adjustor in Louisiana for the past 15 years or so. Handling lawsuits is her primary function. Only a tiny percentage ever make it to court. A few more are settled out of court if the plaintiff has any grounds at all. The vast majority never make it off the case table once the plaintiff comes to realize they have no real case.

But, yes their stated reason was absolutely logical. Again, but, the more I think about it, the term "loyal fans" was a slight toward those that refuse to either get vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 to attend. A "loyal fan" would do whatever it takes to attend. Of course, getting vaccinated would be the easiest avenue, but they could still simply be tested within three days of the game to attend if they truly wanted to attend (ie. loyal fan). While they may still be fans, they are less loyal by definition (faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product).
