NO is somewhat odd when it comes to hurricane tracks and which way will do the most damage. Because of its location, NO takes more damage when it's on the western side of the storm due to storm surge and the storm being weakened as it comes on land when it's on the other side. Most places take the most damage when they are in the eastern part of the eyewall.

All of the work done since Katrina really reduces the affects of storm surge on New Orleans now. A direct hit could have been bad wind wise, it's not looking too bad so far in the city. However, east is getting slammed by those winds and the LaPlace area is getting the surge out of the lake bigtime. The irony is that many people went to LaPlace from the city to escape the storm.

The Quarter still has power. Moving everything underground and transformers up high are proving successful so far.
