Is Mickey Loomis taking financial kickbacks on ludicrous contract?
 

Last year Andrus Peat got $33 million guaranteed. This year Taysom Hill got $23 million guaranteed. What do these players have in common? Four things: they can’t stay healthy, don’t perform consistently, have no true position, and Mickey Loomis is their GM. How would the scheme work? The players agent would meet privately with Loomis. They would agree the player is trending down and unlikely to be in high demand in free agency. Loomis would sign the player to a contract of at least double their market value, and the agent would agree to transfer 50% of their commission to Loomis’ private account. Loomis cashes in, the agent gets at least the commission they would have gotten on the open market if not more, immediately, without injury risk, and can use the blockbuster contract to recruit new clients. Nick Fairley could possibly be another example. Can anyone think of a better explanation? Restructuring is one thing, but these deals are big guaranteed money for players with all the red flags. The timing of Taysom Hill coming off a 3 week concussion at age 31 is just egregious. He could take a big hit his next game and medically retire with $23 million salary for that game, and then we have $23 million less if Aaron Rodgers etc wants to come here in free agency and wants us to sign a WR.

Delete and move on.....nothing to read or see here. To muddy/soil the reputation of arguably one of the best GM's in the past 10-15 years is crazy talk. I hope this was just a joke or weak attempt at sattire.

Or arguably one of the worst. Sean Payton is consistently doing more with less. Payton does more, because Loomis gives him less. Loomis has no football background and an infinite appetite for injury risk. Its easy to argue Jeff Ireland gives us more of a personnel edge and Loomis’ creative salary cap accounting tricks have run their course when we had to let Sanders go, not replace Cook, and send our QBs out passing to a receiving core that would be bad at the SEC level.

Well, while I agree that Peat's contract was kind of a mind blower for most of us, I respectfully don't agree with the Hill comparison.

The first thing you mentioned was health. Besides his concussion from an arguably dirty hit this year, when has Taysom been injured while doing all the things he does? I can't think of any other time. If he was, it wasn't consistently or serious enough for me to remember.....

Thanks for the respect. Hill was injured every year in college. In the pros he stayed healthy by having minimal snaps until 2020. In 2020 he missed the playoff game against the Bucs where we were eliminated with some knee thing. Then this year the scary 45 minute blackout 3 weeks absent concussion. And it seems like when he isnt missing games, he is missing practice with other nagging injuries. I just doubt a future for a 31 year old qb who does not throw especially well, makes his name with power running, and has a significant injury every season of college or pro with significant snaps.

This site rates him as durable but I dont think they look at snap count or consider the nature of the injury. Scary concussions can retire a player fast.

He’s got a 70 million dollar contract with the city apart from whatever he’s earned as the GM of two sports. It seems like the amount of money he’d gain from this endeavor would be small change.

Not gonna say it can’t happen though.
