The most talented quarterback in New Orleans was sitting in the booth talking about a guy running his offense, the one he helped shape and executed to perfection, in a way it was never intended to get run.

Thursday night was used to celebrate Drew Brees and give him the sendoff he never got from the Superdome crowd last year during the bizarro Covid season. He got his moment. The love and appreciation were evident. But behind those cheers was a sense of desperation because Brees’ presence came on a night when the Saints were in the midst of their most hapless performance during the Sean Payton era.

This Thursday will be his shot to take the reins. If not we know we need another QB this offseason unless we re-sign Winston.

Having Taysom start on Thursday gives us a small glimmer of hope. No guarantees we'll win, but he'll provide a spark. This is the correct move. Without any proven playmakers on offense, a game manager makes little sense.

I know Quinn will have a spy (maybe Vanderesh) on him & avoid Hill breaking the pocket. If TH sees a WR break free from #30 of Dallas, throw it up. There is a good chance it's a completion or a penalty. Go after a weak link in their secondary.

Taysom WILL make plays. Hopefully, others will climb on board and give all they got.

The foot. He’s been completely cleared of the concussion for a couple of weeks.

So, paying Hill as much as they are, knowing he has a foot injury, and he is well into is 30’s if things go wrong.....This “could” make the Peat contract look great.

Maybe Hill could dip the front of the ball in super glue before every down and throw it at our receivers backs when they stumble to the ground. That is the kind of innovation it may take to suceed with these receivers, and without the best two, Kamara and Hill himself. At least if he has more arm and better mobilty than Semien, maybe he can run for a few, and maybe a receiver will occasionally get open if given 10 seconds. I think Winston spread the field a bit with his arm strength, but I doubt prime Peyton Manning could throw for 3500 yards with our receivers.

I don't disagree with Taysom starting, jut as long as he doesn't forget about Trevor. Trevor has had crap to play with. Taysom would add another dimension that may help us now. If we ever got players though that didn't completely suck though, I'm not convinced that Taysom would be better than Trevor. That's not saying I don't think Taysom could be a really good NFL QB. I just have a feeling it's going to be hard for any QB we throw in there right now. Perhaps Taysom will make it so receivers don't drop the ball by throwing it so hard that the ball becomes a part of their hands.

Its definitely a good idea to give him a chance but as has already been said, this team is now decimated with injuries and neither Trevor or Taysom have had or will have a lot to work with unless we can get some of the starters back on offence!

SP is always quick to say in the post game interviews that you can't use the injury situation as an excuse for losses but it's obvious with so many players out it has to be the major factor!

Just one of those seasons that looks like its going to be a damage limitation situation i guess!

I'm not being negative when I say this but just another win would seem like a Super bowl victory at this stage!

Don't forget about Trevor? Lol, what else are you expecting from a backup QB in Trevor? Over the last few weeks, he's been downright awful. 0 awareness, pocket presence & throwing pick-six putting us in holes. 0 -4 as a starter. BTW, Jameis has had "crap" to work with at WR since training camp.

It's Taysom time from here until the end of the year. If he is injured, I'd rather insert Ian Book. You are going no place with Trevor under center. Nothing more than a career backup.

This team needs a spark, not a game "manager".

I am failing to see which QB on our roster has not had a chance(s) to see if they can get something going.

We are 5 and 7...

Maybe this week Taysom can have some key pieces (Armstead, Ramczyk, Kamara) back to make the job on offense more reasonable.

I think this speaks volumes in the confidence, or lack thereof, that the Saints have in Ian Book at this time.

If the Saints have grown cold on Ian, they would cut him or waive him to try to get him onto the practice squad. There are limited (53) roster spots and the Saints can certainly use them all given the major influx of injuries.


One thought I have considered is that perhaps Payton has high confidence in Book, but does not want to add him into the QB controversy for this year or next by putting Book on the field now. Maybe he wants Taysom to have his shot at the starting gig (albeit in an injured state).



Regardless of you are are a Book supporter or a detractor, it is perplexing.

I simply think they don't feel he is anywhere near ready yet. I feel Taysom gives us the very best shot at winning at this point. I suspect Payton feels the same way.

I still think if Taysom can't throw the ball go to plan B.
Use Trevor behind center and keep the gadget man in the game to run the ball, block & short out passes.
If plan B doesn't work go to plan C ??

My hope is that Ian continues to develop, work hard @ film study and on the practice field. At some point, I hope he progresses to a solid #2.

Book's former coach is now the main man at LSU. We now need to start Book at QB to achieve Louisiana solidarity :).



IMO whenever he does play, it's very likely to me he will become the guy and we'll wish we would have done it sooner.
