Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
NFL insider hints Sean Payton could be the next Chicago Bears head coach.
Head coach Sean Payton is experiencing a season unlike he has in the past with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have now lost five straight after Thursday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys at home. The Chicago Bears have been rumored to part ways with head coach Matt Nagy. There were even rumors that Nagy was going to be fired after the Thanksgiving day matchup against the Detroit Lions. But Nagy seems to have held on to the job for, at least, the rest of the season .Adam Schefter Sean Payton has contemplated a departure from the New Orleans Saints in the past. In 2019, he did re-sign with the team on a five-year contract extension. If he were to make the decision to leave, would the Chicago Bears be a team where he would want to coach? Sean Payton's connection with Chicago Some may believe that Sean Payton leaving the New Orleans Saints and coaching the Chicago Bears would be a head scratcher, but it makes sense. Sean Payton is an Illinois native, born and raised in Naperville, Illinois, and he attended Eastern Illinois University, where he played quarterback. In 1987, an undrafted Sean Payton actually played for the "Spare Bears," the Chicago Bears team that was a compilation of replacement players during the NFL's strike. Payton, who is seen as an offensive play-calling genius, could do wonders with a young quarterback of Justin Fields' talent. Drew Brees saw a complete turnaround in his career when he began playing with the New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton. The fact that Payton's offense with the Saints is currently struggling could be a deciding factor for Payton to leave a team he has been with for over a decade. The Saints also don't have a solid option at quarterback at this point in the season. Jameis Winston was named the starting quarterback to start the season but a torn ACL cut his season short. Trevor Siemian then replaced him to no avail and utility quarterback Taysom Hill struggled against the Cowboys. |

Where did Mickey Loomis grow up? They got any openings? I would rather keep the head coach who goes .500 or better typically even with tons of injuries and dead money than the GM who is a wizard at finding injury prone players and renegotiating contracts to maximize future dead money. But if Payton is married to Loomis, they better both go. Loomis with a different head coach would make the Lions look like the Patriots. Back to back 0-17 seasons would be very possible.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
If coach wants a challenge he has one here. Injuries have sunk this season and finding Drew's
replacement will be a *****. What can be more challenging then that? |
Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Wow. Who started this one? Lol. Give me a break.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
It’s time for both parties to move on. He’s an avg coach without Brees

Payton doesn't seem particularly tethered to Illinois. This is a big reach.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Honestly, I am not sure Payton ever leaves. I guess, realistically, in this day and age, all coaches will eventually leave or get fired- but only impatience would make him leave in my opinion. First, he has a great amount of security here as long as the team is in current ownership. If he goes anywhere else, he will have to win quickly like any other coach and a coach's star can tarnish quickly. The Saints also aren't a team that will stay down long- so he may have a rough year or two ahead, he should be able to bounce back here.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Sean was smart enough to chase after Drew and that monumental day back on March 14, 2006 put the Saints on a course non of us could ever imagine.
15 years to the day that he first signed with the Saints Drew retired. Not only did we lose our elite QB that day we lost probably the best on field coach that ever played the game. |

If I would peg Payton to go anywhere it would be Dallas

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Like many of you I am a lifelong Saint fan, but living in Texas. Moved to the Dallas area a couple of years ago so I listen to the local sports programs pretty religiously before I turn on THE BIG 870 in the evenings. I can guarantee you that if there is ever so much of a whisper that Sean Payton is available by trade, will be fired or is looking to resign that Jerry Jones will fire whoever his head coach at the time and bring Sean Payton in and make him the highest paid coach in the league. The radio guys here constantly claim that Jerry and Steven Jones both regret the day they let Sean walk and if he ever comes available again they want make the same mistake twice. Now In saying all of this I don’t believe Sean will leave because he has it made in New Orleans and is involved in pretty much every on field decision and would not be in Dallas. However, with a change in ownership coming sooner than later I would imagine all of this will become a hot news story one way or another, but you get a guy like Russell Wilson who will be here for the next 8-10 years my guess is Sean goes nowhere.

I live in Bedford (Mid-Cities) area ... over on 103.3 FM Dallas beat writer/columnist, Clarence Hill Jr. has been beating the drum for Payton as long as I can remember living in this city. He needs to let it go. Anyways Welcome to B & G :bng: |
Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
I’m in Lucas area and yes I wish they would. I don’t want Sean going anywhere. In no sport is coaching more valuable than football. Find this man a QB and we will be enjoying double digit win seasons again.

Lol. I know. I read the posts all of the time however I’m not much of a “poster”. However I saw this thread started and felt like giving some info that I hear on a regular basis. Been a fan a long time. From the miserable late 70’s and early 80’s, through the glory days of the dome patrol and on. Love me some Saints and New Orleans in general. It’s a better world when the Saints are great.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Well I hope you are correct about ownership because I believe her hands off approach is the best way to run it. However I was curious if there are any rumblings about who might be interested in such a purchase if the day ever came. I’m wondering about a Manning ownership group actually.

Who would want to move to Chicago? That place is a dumpster fire (the city and the team). There's safer 3rd world countries to live in.

Re: Juicy Fruit In Chicago ?
Sean is still an offensive genius and no one better will likely ever be available. Gayle Benson owns the team but Payton runs it and he's been doing a fine job since he got here. We have consistently been one of the better teams year in and year out. When he had 7-9 seasons he cleaned house of his cronies and brought in young or proven talent and fixed the problems. Does 13-3 sound familiar? Does NFC South champions sound familiar? What about winning a Super bowl? Sound familiar?

You think Big Nutz Lutz would relinquish #3 to Mr R Wilson? I personally would like to see that happen....Who knows. You can't tell me SP hasn't woke up at night thinking of that scenario.
