Possible Trade to #4 With Jets?

I have been seeing this popping up here and there ever since the Eagles trade went down. Speculation has mostly been targeting a QB. That would be a horrible waste given the options available, in my opinion. But, there are three top LT's out there that could guarantee one being there at #4, Ekwanu, Neal, and Cross. DE Aiden Hutchinson should absolutely go in the first three making one of the LT's available.

Give up two 1’s this year, a 3rd, a 7th, next year’s 1st and 2024’s 2nd just to draft a tackle?

I wouldn't. I'd rather we stayed where we are and get a WR and a lessor tackle like Penning. Although, Ekwanu and Neal look like slam dunk generational talents, so I could see the attraction if one of them was sitting there at #4.

I sure hope not. With 16 and 19 Saints can get two quality starters.

It's merely medial fodder to fill up airtime and screen time until the draft. They need useless content.

There you go.

And of course, if they overachieve ... lagniappe.

If the Saints jump all the way to 4 they are probably in love with Malik Willis.

Smoke screen by both teams I’m sure. Jets want a bidding war and the saints want to bluff, making teams think they are moving up for the top QB. Making other teams move up and lose draft capital to steal a player we didn’t want

Boo! Boo this pick.

It's pretty simple for me: Is there any QB that has the talent of Mahommes, Herbert, or Jackson in this draft? The answer is no. So, stay put.

If we move up for a QB I will be sad.

Hell, if we stay put for a QB I'd be sad, too. We don't NEED a QB right now. Especially not any of these coming out this year.

Re: Possible Trade to #4 With Jets?

Most mock drafts have us grabbing Penning or Cross at 16 and Olave at 19 and I’d be more than happy with that to start things off. Realistically we’ll probably trade both first to move up for a qb then grab a safety in the second lol

Shades of the 2018 QB class ... Goff, Wentz, Paxton Lynch, etc.

Go get you a quality starter o lineman &/or WR.

Stay put, please.

Re: Possible Trade to #4 With Jets?

I think WR is a given and should be easily attainable where we’re currently picking. If we’re banking on getting a LT though… that’s a pretty big gamble to assume one will be there at 16. I could see Neal, Ekwonu and Cross all going top 10. That would leave Penning and any team could jump ahead of us for him now that we’ve shown our cards.

I wouldn’t want Bernhard Raimann because he’ll be a 25 year old rookie who still needs development. Tyler Smith is really raw and better suited to move inside to guard.

I guess what I’m saying is I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the first round picks was someone completely out of left field.

Re: Possible Trade to #4 With Jets?

Is anyone in this draft worth what would amount to THREE first round picks and then some? We would essentially be giving up what the Browns gave up for Watson, possibly more.
I am ok trading and walking away with two day one impact players (one would hope) but trading up doesn’t jive with the idea of pumping the breaks on the cap spending.

Side note- watch this be the best Qb class in NFL history. And no I don’t want a Qb.

Re: Possible Trade to #4 With Jets?

It's only two first round picks. In 2022 and 2023 the Saints had 2 1st round picks. They still have two first round picks, just both in 2022 now. If they traded up into the top 10, which is certainly hope they won't do, then they get 1 1st round player for 2 first round picks.

Now presumably they lose the 2nd and the 7th they already traded. They may lose other lower picks. But trading a 1st round next year for a 1st round this year is a swap, not a loss of a pick.

Stay put and fill your needs in the first round with two picks. This idea of trading up again just doesn't seem as beneficial.

The only real thing that bothers me about this trade is the fact we will be without a first round pick next year in a draft class that is supposed to have several good Qb options. As much as I admire what Winston has overcome I still don’t think he’s a long term answer. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe it’s part of their cap management plan by acquiring young players on a rookie salary. Winston develops them and then go for a Qb in two years when his contract is up. The timing would be right cap wise as you wouldn’t have to shell out as big money contracts within the span of two seasons. Assuming they all earn it.

Guido, your guys on “Movin’ the Chains” did a mock draft today and they had the Saints doing exactly that. The Saints traded up with the Jets for Alabama LT Evan Neal. With Doug Marrone being his position coach last year… it’s plausible.

Missed the show today. Yes, way, way more plausible than moving up for a QB. Highly drafted offensive tackles have a much higher success rate than QB's, for certain.

Anything less than Willie Roaf or Tony Boselli this will be disappointing at this cost.

They have a 1st of either the Raiders or Cowboys when one has a poor start to the season and panics to the fans clamouring for Payton

Trust me, that’s been an EVERYDAY topic up here with Payton.

In a sense, I see Mike McCarthy and Payton as the “same” HC.

Something tells me when Mike is gone, Jerry and Stephen will hire from the college ranks. They’ve tried these old school guys and it hasn’t exactly worked out.

People are always talking about these "ties with Dallas". His family doesn't live there. His ex-wife used to, but she married some guy from the east coast. It's been almost two decades since he was coach with the Cowboys. I agree that the Jones' look elsewhere if or when the time comes.
